silly question: Are you restricted to going to only one academy or is it encouraged to go to as many as you feel comfortable going to?

You can go to as many or as few academies as you want.

If you skip N'Dak's academies you can go to as many as you want. If you go to one of his, your character will be killed in the plot and you will no longer be able to play.

 

JOKING!

 

Though there is sure to be death in N'Dak's academy simulation, the plot exists only within that sim and you are more than welcome to come back and die again, or go to someone else's academy.

 

As you may have read in the rules, a minimum of three academies is required to "graduate", whereupon you can be posted as a recurring member of one of the advanced sim crews. In that case, plots continue on.

 

Check out "Tips from the Moose" for some sage advice on simming practices and conventions. It's pinned in the STSF Academy forum.

Two things to remember: 1) Any Academy hosted by STSF N'Dak is a guaranteed suicide mission [And that's a direct quote from his signature]. 2) Never compare the GMs to Captains Bligh or Queeg if you want to get graduate sometime before the turn of the century.

Academy times are listed ET, so adjust as appropriate for your timezone. Academies are mandatory, and everyone is human. Save your character development for your Advanced Ship. Minimum graduation time is 3 Academies, but don't expect to graduate that quickly; the host teams prefer to see how are over a longer span of time. And once you are posted to your first Advanced Sim, it's strongly recommended that any ideas that go outside Trek canon be approved by your host team.
