Personal Log - What a mess...

After the Captain retired to his Ready Room, Tom noted that it had been quite a while since he had recorded a personal log and departed the bridge. He ended up in the mess hall with a padd and sat down at one of the windows looking out at the planet blow.

"Computer, begin personal log... The last 24 hours have been quite an interesting affair, we took a marine shuttle down to the surface to complete some reconniance on the planet of Axrekrav and what was supposed to be a covert operation has now turned into an interplanetary fiasco.

We landed near a small settlement and before too long, we found an old man that referred to himself as 'Ken'. After my initial first encounter with this fellow along with Ms. Swan and a new member of our crew Ens. Kent, Lt. Eagle took over relations with Ken. Ken, Ms. Swan and Lt. Eagle disappeared what eventually was found out to be a secret underground complex while the rest of the recon team continued with our surveys. Eventually the three returned back to the surface, out another secret door that we could not detect and Ken agreed to come with us back to the Arcadia to meet up with the rest of the senior staff to discuss his knowledge of what he claims to be the actual plot behind the current regime.

As we headed back to the shuttle, and even just before we were all in the shuttle, Ken was spooked by some sirens in the distance. As the sound approached, Ken took off running back towards the settlement we found him at. We transported him onto the shuttle as soon as we could but the locals fired on the transporter beam, and ended up killing Ken. We left the planet as quick as we could while still cloaked, and when we were just about to dock with Arcadia, one of the Axrekrav ships locked on to us with a tractor beam and pulled us into their shuttle bay.

Somewhere during the commotion, Eagle got knocked out and I was left to make the decisions on the shuttle. After were were pulled in to the shuttle bay, the Axrekravians started accusing us of various crimes against their planet and we were not in any position to argue the point. We had a dead local on our shuttle, they obviously knew we were on the planet surface otherwise how else could they have known where and how to track us down as we returned. In any case, it seemed my options were limited, and I felt that if we turned ourselves over to the Axrekravians, that the diplomatic team below would surely be in trouble soon enough.

Having the recon team captured for espionage would have been bad enough, but the entire senior staff getting arrested, well, lets just say I don't think Starfleet would look too kindly on that. I gave the order to get us out of the shuttle bay by any means possible, and thats what the team did, we shot our way out of the bay, and about half way to Arcadia, we got an emergency transport out of the shuttle, not a second after that, the back end of the shuttle was obliterated. At least for the most part, my understanding is that there are a few fragments being analyzed by the engineers right now.

After our return to the ship, the diplomatic team was beamed back right away to prevent them from being caught, I brought the Captain up to speed on the situation, and right now he is in his Ready Room negotiating with the Axrekravians on this whole thing.

Another thing that was brought to my attention by Daena just before I started this log was that there were some unauthorized communications during the mission, and that may have been a contributing factor in our capture. That reminds me, I should complete an interim mission brief for Cmdr. Marx with a brief synopsis of the planet-side occurrences and the discoveries made on-board.

Computer end log, and add a personal memo, please remind me to schedule a dinner after this mission."

Tom put the padd down on the table and looked down at the table and into the swirls in his drink, resting his feet as he took a sip. All he could think about was if shooting his way out of an Axrekravian ship was the best choice, and in the end he came to the conclusion that Daena was right, being aboard a friendly ship was far better than being a prisoner on another. He continued to sip his drink as he looked back out the window at the seemingly lush planet below.
