RE: Results of security sweeps through quarters for contraband/unregistered weapons

Commander Segami,

I have completed my security sweeps through the crew quarters. Please note that I conducted scans only of the enlisted crew quarters, the flight crew quarters, and some junior officer quarters. Surveys of Senior Officer Quarters were attended to by Lieutenant Mark Garrison. Several weapons of a personal or ceremonial/ritualistic nature were found among the crew. Cross reference with security department records found virtually all of them to have been properly catalogued and registered.

The only exception to report was a klingon d'k'tang dagger that was found in the quarters of crewman Lovar Derex on deck 5. The weapon is unregistered and was concealed inside the quarters, not displayed in a manner consistent with a ceremonial or heirloom type item. The weapon was confiscated and is currently secured in security storage locker 21 beta 6 in the security office. I have forwarded Crewman Derex a weapon registration form as well as a copy of the rules and regulations regarding personal weapons being kept in quarters on a starship. Lieutenant Garrison is also scheduled to meet personally with Crewman Derex to discuss the circumstances surrounding his possession and apparent concealment of this item.

Also of note, the quarters of security staff were not inspected during these sweeps.

No other infractions were noted during the sweeps. Recommend making these sweeps a regular security procedure on a random interval for safety purposes.

End Report
