Arthur C. Clarke

The AP reports that Arthur C. Clarke, the legendary science-fiction author, has died today. He brought a lot of people into science fiction, including myself, and he will be missed.

One of my most beloved authors. Yes, he will be missed.

Godspeed, Arthur.

I've been reading his books since I was 6, and he was always my favorite author. I was sad to hear he passed away, but glad that he could be with us so long.

For those who haven't seen it, there's a video of Clarke on youtube, speaking on his 90th birthday.

We lost a true visionary today. Not only did he predict the development of geo-synch/geo-stationary communication satellites, he also predicted that men would go to the Moon before the turn of the millennium, the Y2K bug, and numerous other developments (some of which are still sci-fi, but looking towards becoming reality). Even NASA's Spaceguard Program is named after a similar program from Rendezvous with Rama.

From the BBC News:

Arthur C. Clarke: Predictions

Writer Arthur C. Clarke dies at 90

Obit: Sir Arthur C. Clarke
