Posting Transfer Page

I was just curious what the technical purpose of the "Your Post has been Made, Please Wait while we transfer you" or whatnot. What's that for? Wouldn't it be easier just to skip the transfer page and go directly to the reloaded post page?

Just a random thought

Hey there,

Probably our wonderful webmaster can clarify more, but I was under the impression that transfer page existed to give the board system time to update itself? Am I wrong?

That makes sense. But I always click the "click here if you do not wish to wait" link, which if I click before it has time to update itself, it shouldnt be updated when I get back to the forums but it is...right? ::confused now::

woah and here i was thinking that whilst we stared at the pretty words telling us to wait the webmaster was hacking into our credit card accounts! oh well, i'd better cancel that hit.

The page is there for several reasons:

- As Fred says, it gives the mySQL database time to run it's update

- It gives the user session an update new posts (it marks what posts are new and unread since the last update while you were typing).

- It serves as a security measure.  If someone somehow managed to get your Session ID (the "s=" part the board URL as you browse), they could try to manipulate the board to try and hijack your session.  The redirect also checks the referrer to make sure it was who was supposed to have posted the message.

And before someone asks about the Quick Reply feature not having the redirect...

In the quick reply feature...  it's still there...  but I've speeded it up a lot more since there is not as much that needs to check since the browser already authenticated the user on loading the topic display.  But it's still there.
