Interested in simming

28 posts in this topic

Hello everyone. I am a hardcore TNG fan, but have seen/am watching every other series as well. I have also checked the websites on the current ships posted on STSF, as well some of the related message board material.

I am interested in joining, and will enroll in the Academy soon. I am interested in a tactical/security post  :) , but will of course obey orders to the best of my abilities.

I am interested in any players's or GM's HONEST opinion of the current workings of the STSF in general, as well as crewmembers' opinions of their ships, captains, etc. I am an avid roleplayer in all genere, but if I'm to devote the time I think worthy to a ST sim   , I need this insight. Thanks.

I'll give you an honest opinion...don't ask a GM for an honest opinion they're on the STSF payroll.   :)  They'll always tell you they love STSF.

STSF is a pretty darn good forum. It's pretty new. It doesn't have as many "sims" as other forums you might see, but it has as many as the player base can handle...which means you won't find a sim with 2-3 people on it. And everyone around here is really friendly...er, most of the time   ::angry::

I've been simming for 7 or 8 years and I'll tell you I really do enjoy the community in STSF, not just the simming.

And it's slowly growing. Slow and steady. I can't wait to see where it is in 5 years or so.

Could use a newsletter though ::runs:: :dead:

Yes this sim is quite lovely, populated by Gods and Goddesses, the G triplets, Various aquatic mammals, Methusela, a dumbass, several drunken doctors, Ziggy, pouncers, klingons, vulcans, humans, cats, romulans and a whole cast of others who plan on somehow eliminating me, it's a fun place to be.   ::angry::

First of all Zeop, welcome to STSF!    We're glad you've taken time to check us out and learn more about us.  :)

I'm sure anyone you meet here will tell ya we're a fun loving bunch that all share a common interest in the Trek world.  All of us have a passion for online role-playing, and you'll find many people here who have close to a decade of expierence at it.

If you're interested in simming, I'd definately encourage you to join us.  You'll learn and grow a lot here.  And of course...  ya'd have a great time in the process.  :) :)

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] or our fearless leader himself...  Admiral Atragon 9 at [email protected] --  We'd be happy to help you in any way that we can.

Hey, Zeop.  I hope you decide to join up.

If you want my opinion... while there are some areas that STSF could improve, it's one of the better sim groups that you'll find.  The key to this is experienced leadership.  And like Vex said, we're expanding.  Slowly now, but I predict that our growth will spike sooner than later, so I can't wait to see where we are in ONE year.

The best way for you to determine what sim (if any) is right for you is to participate in the Academies.  There are many styles of simming, and only by sampling a variety of sims can you determine which one suits your tastes.

It would definitely be worth the time you spend here.  There are people in STSF who devote hours to the group every week.  They wouldn't even be here if they weren't having fun.

Welcome to STSF Zeop!

It's a great community. Best way to find out info about specfic sims is to ask the GMs. And you've already asked the players their opinion here, you're off to a great start. Talk to people at the Acads also, before or after the game. It's a great way to get some info and also a great way to get to know other players and GMs here. :)

First of all, welcome to STSF!

I started simming with STSF about 8 months ago.  As everyone else has said above, it has its problems, but I think you'll find your experience here simming and interacting with the community both in chat and on the boards quite fun.  While I haven't simmed on other groups, I have looked through some of their websites, and (thanks to our webmaster) this one is one of the best designed and maintained (with no popup ads!), and (thanks to our community), this has some of the most creative, imaginitive people driving the sims' storylines (read our logs for some examples!).

While you may start out despising the academy system because you can't jump into a "real" sim immediately, you will find it to your advantage.  Firstly, you get a good, solid introduction to simming without any pressure to get everything right the first time.  Secondly, you can get practice simming all the positions on the ship without a commitment.  Thirdly, you'll find that the GMs here only graduate people after they've mastered the simming basics (which isn't all that hard, with practice!), so the advanced sims aren't clogged with lost, green recruits.  Finally, you'll find that most of the people here are nice and will help you out if you need it.

Hope to see you soon in an academy, and, once again, welcome aboard!

Okay, what are these "problems" you keep talking about???  Is Fred making you guys clean the Warp Intake Manifold again?

Well, one perennial problem is the punt monster in our chat rooms.

And, anyway, it wasn't the warp intake manifold cleaning job that was the problem...

The chat rooms ARE a problem. But they're getting better.

Anyway. The academy system is 100% good. Because even if you are experienced, it lets you slowly move yourself into the group and get to know a lot more people than just the folks you'll be simming with on your adv sim, because if you end up simming 3 different acad sims, the chances are good that you'll se a lot of different people each time. Rather if you just rushed to an adv sim...you'd end up only getting to know those specific people.

AND....in my humble opinion, you can tell how good a groups community is by how well they communicate and interact on their boards. And you can see just from the responses here that we're a pretty friendly group!

I am hurt.. truly hurt Images, that you think I am trying to eliminate you. Other than blowing up an academy ship or two I have no personal vendettas.  ::):

I have been simming for ... well close to a decade now, which is scary to contemplate. I have simmed with at least 5 different groups, and all have had their good and bad points. I really like this group, and actually stepped up to become a GM, which shows I like it and plan on sticking around. I know what it takes to be a host, forum leader, admiral, etc, and its a lot of hard work with very little reward.

One of the great things about this group is the variety. You can be on a starbase, a TOS based sim, a Romulan sim, etc, etc, etc.  And a lot of these ships have YEARS of history so simplots can involve plots from the past which adds spice. (We love to do that on the Arcadia)

I won't talk about the academies, cause I think they've been covered exteremely well on this string.

Welcome aboard, and looking forward to seeing you around!

So um, since the state of CA may soon be paying me minimum wage, how soon til we get those paychecks A??

LOL, hey Zeop.Welcome to STSF!  I've been simming for 3 weeks now.  It's actually alot easier than I expected, and I graduated from academy in 2 weeks.. (4 classes).  Now, I'm simming on 3 advanced sims: The Republic, Arcadia and Hood.  Everybody here is nice and helpful.. they help me in telling me what I have to do, and correct my errors... because I'm still new. But remember, it might not take you 4 classes to graduate, just be creative and use your imagination.  And if you don't know something , you can ask a Gm or use the Startrek.com library (like I do..    ) , but that can take time. See you later, man., and I hope t see you in academy.. goodluck too, eh?

"Chief of Materials," Seiben?

Has someone on that ship actually been cruel enough to put you in charge of watching deuterium levels all day?  Methinks you're too good for that.
