"Resignation"

03.08.08

USS Agincourt NCC-81762

“Resignation”

It was late into the ships night cycle. Kansas JoNs stared at the screen of her computer monitor, her mood heavy, and her mind dead. She had been up all night, agonizing and re-thinking her decision. The feline carefully re-read what she had verbally dictated into a text memo, and was thankful that the alternating tones of sarcasm and sadness that her purring voice had vacillated between did not come through on the recorded digital text memo.

==== Agincourt Command Staff ====

To: Colonel C.E. Harper, Lieutenant Colonel TLoren Day

Re: Resignation

Colonels:

Upon the return of the Agincourt to the Alpha Quadrant, I will be requesting and putting in for a transfer to another duty station. While I have benefited from my time spent onboard and under your joint command, I am also finding that my command style and your command styles are at odds more then often then not.

After I had completed my required training cruises, I had been told by an uncle to apply to a star base, frontier patrol ship, or research ship, instead of applying immediately to a line ship stationed in the main quadrants. His logic was that the alternate duty postings would give me the experience that I needed in order to excel on a line ship. Of course, I opted not to listen, and applied to the line ship pool which in turn led me to service here on the Agincourt.

I now see that this decision was an error on my part.

I will continue with my security department lead and second officer duties for our duration here in the Perseus Arm. However, due to these new circumstances, if you require me to step down immediately, this can be arranged as well. I recommend Master Chief Keltex as my interim and permanent replacement. He has turned down a line officer commission at least twice already in his career, and he should have made the rank of Lieutenant Commander at least ten years ago. Keltex has forgotten more then the three of us combined can remember, and would be an asset in the capacity as the security lead.

Sincerely,

Lieutenant Commander Mrrett JoNs

==== End Communication ====

The Caitian was satisfied with the content of the memo, and with a dejected flip of a paw to the inset desk keyboard, Kansas sent the digital data packet off to the inboxes of the senior marine Shark commanders.
