Star Trek XI Moved To May 2009

Hey there,

According to Variety, the next Star Trek film has been moved back from Christmas 2008 to May 2009. The reasons seem to be purely financial, not due to problems with production. "Paramount is pushing back the release of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009, saying the pic's gross potential is greater as a summer tentpole.".

Hollywood Reporter confirms some stating '"Star Trek" arguably was the biggest film moved, with the intended Christmas Day release now set for the first prime date in the following summer boxoffice season: May 8, 2009. But "Trek" appears something of an exception in the mix of itinerant pics, with its shift unrelated to script or cast considerations.

" 'Star Trek' is moving to summer because its has so much boxoffice potential," Par spokesman Michael Vollman said. "It does not need any script tweaks. They're two-thirds of the way through shooting, and we would have delivered a great movie at Christmas."

I agree, Mark -- I'm nervous about this movie, so frankly, anything they can do to get it a bigger result that may extend the franchise is a good thing.

We're all nervous. Because they need to bring out another Trek Series on Television. Maybe set after Nemesis, I am pretty the previous actors wouldn't mind coming back its a paycheck. I mean look at us we do every time we sim. I wouldn't be surprised if they watch our Sims for creative purposes. You never know.

SPIES! Where?!

I don't know if this is good or bad, but I am not worried in the least with regard to the Trek film. In my own opinion, I think it rocks out that the film will be set during The Original Series (say it with me! No bloody A, B, C or D! Yeah!), but overall I feel indifferent toward the film - it's neither a good or a bad idea to me, and I am not counting down the release date on a calendar or anything. ::shrugs::

So what you're saying is, the future of Trek depends upon the past which is the future.

The film will be more enjoyable to watch if entered with the frame of mind that this will be a whole different Trek "Cannon".

And after seeing several sim plots show up on DS9 and Voyager, I would not be surprised to learn they've borrowed ideas from us in the past or will do so in the future.
