“Alternative Weapons Prep”

02.06.08

USS/ISS Agincourt NCC-81762

“Alternative Weapons Prep”

A very small brown spider skittered across the slate gray surface. It was a common Earth arachnid, non-poisonous, usually located in homes and gardens. It had probably stowed away during the last supply run the ISS Agincourt had done to the human planet.

A large and wide golden paw slammed down on the thing, reducing it to a greenish pulp. Kansas then casually flicked the dead carcass from the desktop with a claw, sending the now dead spider flying halfway across the office to land on the decking.

The interruption and resulting death of the small intruder had barely even slowed down the conversation, and the feline security chief again turned her full attention on Conrad Zimm, her chief armory officer.

**********

A very small brown spider skittered across the slate gray surface of the desk. It was a common spider from the planet Earth, and had probably stowed away during the last supply transfer when the USS ‘Court had still been in the Alpha quadrant. It was amazing, but somehow these creatures always found their way out into space no matter what.

Kansas motioned for Petty Officer Esteban to grab one of the empty isolinear chip containers stored on the shelf behind him. He handed the clear plastic holder to her, and the feline security chief proceeded to gently herd the wayward arachnid into the clear container.

“The science geeks will probably love to check out this bug. So, Rafe, in your opinion, the security weapons and armor upgrades are going very well?”

The enlisted armory chief shrugged in agreement. “Aye sir. The combination marine and security based upgrades that we started implementing a few weeks ago,” the olive skinned human pointed to a security phaser rifle and flak vest lying on a nearby worktable, “are about ninety five percent complete.”

“That’s great. I can’t say for sure if our security Squids will be riding shotgun to the Sharks for the Senok rescue extraction, but if we are to help the marines with the prison breach, I want you to keep the available weapons and equipment on standby, just in case.”

**********

Lieutenant Zimm, the human armory chief for the security department, looked at his feline boss and lover with a feral smile plastered on his rugged features. “I guarantee we’ll have no problems quelling the uprising at the prison.” The crew had received orders to assist with scattered riots at the New Mars Detention Facility; it was a rough place, and one of the worst Alpha Quadrant facilities to be sentenced to.

He hefted the phaser rifle from the nearby worktable and handed it to Kansas. “All the security rifle weapons were modified with this new bayonet knife attachment. In addition, we have the same type of knife attachment that can be affixed to the phaser handles for a downward thrust option.”

The Caitian lieutenant commander handled the weapon with an ease born of practice and then sighted down the scope, her admiration for the well oiled piece contained and of a clinical detachment. “Weapon balance is good. The blade is longer, and the edge is serrated. I like it.”

“Thought you might, and that bayonet can cause a lot of damage in close quarters fighting, the prisoners won’t stand a chance. Any word yet on whether or not the security department will be taking part in the purge op?”

“Not yet, but I am currently lobbying. Translation, I’m bombing the hell out of the colonels’ inboxes.”

**********

“Okay Rafe, thanks for the tutorial on the weapons and protective gear. Part of me hopes that we won’t need to use these upgrades, but if we’re over there in the prison I want everyone as protected from any Soltan or Selshan guards that they can get…”

**********

“Okay Zimm, have this equipment of yours ready to go at a moments notice for possible deployment. I feel a strong urge to bust some prisoners’ heads…”
