Randy is a Webmaster, there's Always a new website in the works.  That doesn't mean that this site will be changing anytime soon.  It's kinda like a college professor, Publish or Perish.  Or the shark that has to keep moving forward or it dies.  I think Randy is always thinking of new stuff, but since this is already STSF's second website in it's 9 months of existence, we'll probably stay with this consturct for awhile.

LOL...  since I first started working on the website, I've actually done over 25 different "concepts".

About 12 of them never made it past the Photoshop image I do most of my design work in...  and the rest never made it past the HTML conversion process.

I play around with the website all of the time...  at least 2-3 changes are made each and every week.  Be it visible changes, such as text modification or graphic modification or if it's something like optimizing the graphics and code to make the website as efficient and quick as possible.

We'll most likely keep this general look and feel for a while longer.  Though I may update the content layout a little bit to keep things fresh.  As A9 says...  there's aways something in the works.  I get a lot of great ideas all of the time from doing my real job.  But as far as something absolutely "new and stunning"...  that might be a while off.

One thing that most professional webmasters know is you don't want to change your site's layout/navigation TOO often.  Otherwise your visitors get confused and get lost while using your site.

You know what would be nifty? Take all those concepts and a few more and set up a "viewing page". Then the members can vote on the one they like best and the members can choose the look of the STSF site. That would be a lot of fun I think.

You're assuming this is a democracy.    ;)

Since I have to attach my name to the site's design and take credit (good or bad) for it...  I am very picky about what I display publically.  In all, I have over 400 web designs I've done over the past 5 years or so since I started working on web design.  But most of them are never displayed publically because they are not what I feel is of calibur to be seen by the public.  However, I do keep them for ideas later.  I find myself saying "I liked how this concept had this, and if I change that, I could make it better."

Anyway...  when the time comes for the new "shock and awe" design, there will be several people that I seek input from.  I may not throw it on the forums, but I do IM several people and ask for opinions one-on-one.  I get better, more honest feedback that way.  But...  before ya get your hopes up...  that day is still awhile away.  :D

AOL has never figured that out. They keep rolling out a new and better version before anyone can figure out the current one. And the worst part is, rather than making things easier, they make things much more difficult to work with.

I miss AOL 1.5.........

But hey! I LOVE this website!! ;)

Hey there,

LOL...  I still have my AOL disks from the days of version 2.5.  I even have an AOL for DOS somewhere.

I've made a habbit of collecting the various CDs after they come out...  from the AOL Silver to Gold to Platinium to Titanium, etc.  :)

Now...  what does that make me besides a nerd?  Beats me.  :)  A nerd with an AOL CD/floopy collection I guess.

I have actually sat in a room with 6 other people...  all hooked across 2 hubs into one cable modem...  all simming in the room.  We passed out AOL CDs too just to make it official.  lol!!

(I don't wanna remember what the electric bill was for having all of those computers and laptops up and running in the same room.  )

I've managed to give away most of mine....at my crab party 2 years ago. I think Jami got the 1.5 floppy, and I'm not sure, but I think Issia got the 1.1 floppy.  Handed everyone a disk of floppy on the way in, and the number on it, dictated what doorprize you won.

LOL :)

I like that idea Blu!!!

I thought it was funny when the news ran a story on some guys who were collecting together a million AOL cd's to send to AOL. When I heard it, i guessed it would take them maybe 2 days to find that many.

I am still running 7.. and thats an extrememly reluctant upgrade cause of computer malfunction. I had a free account back in the 2-2.5 days, and I remember when we wnet to 3.0 and lost our private chat rooms. Huge hullaballo.

I want 1.5 back. I am not a nerd. I like it simple.

Thats why I am trying to get webby to revamp my website!!! :)

And yes, I like this site too! So don't go changing it! I'm easily confused.

Wouldn't it be cool if AOL sent out CD-RW CDs instead of regular ones...so if you dont want an AOL CD you can use it to burn music on!

You may have just stumbled onto the secret of why they stopped sending everyone free floppy disks.
