“Nicknames” – Part I of III

Log Series Part III

 

The doors slid open, and Garnoopy stepped forward into his quarters. The room was dark, lights off, and he didn’t bother to turn them on. The twinkling stars outside the window provided enough light to see where the room’s objects were.

 

The doors slid closed behind him, and he walked across the room, slowly, not smiling. He felt worn out, tired, and emotionally drained.

 

He stepped to the window, and stared out. The twinkling stars were always there when he needed them. Always there to stare at, to let his mind think while the rest of the world seemed to fall apart.

 

“Slick” he said, his voice crackling slightly. “She called me Slick.”

 

Garnoopy bit his lip; the nickname was one he hadn’t heard in a long time. He hadn’t heard it since he had last been with his brother. A long time ago it seemed. It had been regularly heard when… he signed, and a lump rose in his throat.

 

He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
