Diplomatic Log

I walked onto the bridge of this new ship and presented my diplomatic credentials to Commander JoNs. I was worried that the Starfleet crew would be concerned about having a diplomat aboard, even a low-level one like me. I've seen officers bristle at just being introduced to Ambassador T'Salik. She used to dismiss it as an emotional reaction to someone "invading their territory". I never saw her do anything to deserve some of the treatment she was given, except that time she laid into Rear Admiral Meve on his own Control Tower. I don't plan on doing anything like that. Not on my first solo assignment for the Federation.

The captain, who I met once before, wasn't on the bridge. But the Caitan first officer was very pleasant. I read that she had a security background, so I was prepared for comments on how it was a risk for me to be aboard. But there was none of that.

I was given permission to stay on the bridge. Since Kallah was there on duty, I did. We were able to talk. I noticed how many faces I didn't know, which surprised me after living on Camelot Station for so long. Most of them never made it down to Embassy Row, I guess, or maybe they're just new. It's been nice to see no one looking at me strangely for being a Cardassian in the Gamma Quadrant. With my people restricted from travelling here by the treaty, it sometimes makes me feel even more isolated from them.

T'Salik said there were elements in the Assembly who appreciated the irony of sending a Cardassian as a Federation representative to the Dominion. I just wonder if they see me as a reminder of the mistake they made starting that war. But then, they did send a Weyoun to Camelot, and they must know how we'd feel about that.

The ship seems to have found one of the first "breadcrumbs", as Kallah put it, on our mission to help the Dominion. I know they've restricted full knowledge of our goal to the senior line officers, but I wonder how soon it will be obvious to the whole crew. Once that happens, how long before others off-ship know? The Vorta are very concerned about it. They didn't even bring any Jem'Hadar as escorts.

I can't be alone in wondering if we ought to be helping them. I know I feel bitterness when I think how their leaders laid waste to Cardassia Prime. They killed 800 million of my people in that last day of the war just as a punishment for our disloyalty. Eight years later and we still haven't recovered. Should I be helping put them back in control of that empire?

I've listened to the Council debates over subspace. Current policy is to restabilize the region. What they can't say in open session is that a weak Dominion invites rebellions, which lures in the Scorpiad or the Hundred. And they know it would spill toward the wormhole. I'm more worried about what the Jem'Hadar would do if they knew. They certainly aren't loyal to the Vorta.

The Commander has the ship on approach to this planetoid they've located. For now, she's asked me not to alert the Vorta. I'll follow her lead. I just wonder what will happen next.

Of course not! You should quickly switch allegiances and encourage the peoples of the Dominion to accept benevolent leadership under their rightful heirs, the Hundred. The children of the Founders have no interest in conquering the galaxy. They just want to establish a New Link to govern the diverse cultures of the Gamma Quadrant, share the enlightenment they experienced as individuals on many different worlds, and usher in a new era with greater free will. True, they'd resist species who'd seek their death - like the Scorpiad and the Federation - but only in self-defense. You could be a principal architect of the pax centuria.

Just swing by my office in the Hundred Wing on Camelot Station, my dear. I'll have some pamphlets ready for you.

Of course, my character hasn't yet revealed to the galaxy at large that the Founders aren't just in "splendid isolation".

:::rubbing hands together::: But just wait until he announces that the Vorta have lost them entirely!

Who are the Hundred?

The quick version is they are an offshoot/rebel type of Vorta group, and they could cause some serious problems if they wanted to in order to upset the galatic political playing field. And Semil is a big time Hundred representative. We want Weyoun and company to find the Founders...not the Hundred. Bad, very bad.;-)

These links, provided a bit back by Semil, may help to figure out the backstory behind them:

Who are the Hundred?

Since long before your sun burned hot in space I have awaited... a question.

You only had to wait a day for the reply.

When Odo discovered his own origins, he learned that the Founders had sent out one hundred infant changlings, with no memory of who they are, to explore the galaxy and eventually return to the Great Link. He later met one at DS9, named Laas. It has since been learned that Laas went on to locate and organize several more of these infant changelings. This group, styling themselves as "The Hundred", feared that the Great Link had been corrupted by Odo and the genocidal disease that almost killed the Founders. After the war, the Founders withdrew direct leadership and left running the Dominion to the Vorta. Three years ago, the Hundred revealed themselves, starting to sway the allegiance of some Vorta and Jem'Hadar, and began challenging leadership of the Dominion. The Dominion sought Federation assistance in helping them prevent the wholesale defection of their forces and worlds; this seemed like a good idea to your people, since the Hundred demonstrated clear hostility toward the Alpha Quadrant.

Thus, Excalibur's extended mission and Camelot Station were born.

The Scorpiad came later and are best described by others. As for the Hundred, there's a couple of older logs that do a better job of providing backstory than I can, so here's the links for newer players.

: This was a log written by Sorehl, explaining the origin of the rebellious Hundred, when they were first introduced. I even get a mention in this one, although that clone was loyal to the Dominion.

Admiral Day was briefly kidnapped by two of the Hundred and learned a few things about them in
Fate of the Admiral, Part One
and
Part Two
.

Just to confuse things, the Hundred have successfully gained control of their own cloning facilities and perhaps some shipyards. My previous clone, a loyal servant to the Dominion, was killed in the line of duty. The Hundred decided to restore my line, cloning my current incarnation. This is described in :
Rebirth
. Since then, I have served the Hundred, helping improve relations with the Federation by alerting them to the disappearance of the Founders and by saving the fleet at DS9 from an ambush by the Scorpiad. This is described in
Determination and Free Will
.

And I didn't even get a medal.
