PERSONAL HISTORY

Born in 2352 on the Ambassador Class Starship USS Manchester to Starfleet Lieutenants Tobias and Mary Beth Garrison. The oldest of three children, he spent most of his childhood on the ship until his teens when he went to Earth for formal schooling and to enter Starfleet. Graduating in 2374 Mark saw little action in the Dominion war, spending most of the remainder of the war on a shakedown cruise with the USS Venice. In 2375 he transferred to the USS Mercutio following the end of the Venice’s shakedown and participated in the Battle of Cardassia, receiving the Starfleet Decoration for Gallantry. After the war he remained on the Mercutio, whose primary mission was to patrol the border space between the Federation and the Breen.

In 2377 Tobias Garrison tested positive for Irumondic Syndrome, and subsequently retires from Starfleet. His wife, Commander Mary Beth Garrison remains in active service, as any visible effects of her husband’s disease are not expected to arise for several years. In 2382, several weeks before the end of her final tour, Mary Beth Garrison is killed in a freak transporter accident. The tragedy is taken especially hard by Mark who takes a year extended leave of absence from Starfleet in order to return to Earth and see to his father’s affairs, who is no beginning to suffer from symptoms of Irumondic Syndrome. Over the next year Commodore Garrison’s condition continues to deteriorate, forcing him to be moved into a medical facility better equipped to care for him. Mark is placed on active duty, and assigned to the USS Excalibur-C, scheduled to leave Earth for the Gamma Quadrant.

Immediately after joining Excalibur, the ship is dispatched on a secret mission to discover the "Holy Grail" a device the Vorta believe will allow them to contact the Founders, who have secluded themselves from the Galaxy at large since the end of the Dominion War. The journey took a little more then a year to complete, and contained enough excitement, discovery, and peril to wet Mark's appetite for adventure. Upon returning to Camelot, Mark was promoted to Chief of Security.

With the Excalibur requiring an extensive repair and overhaul from its long journey, most of the crew were transfered to the USS Union, an old Excelsior class ship. The first mission of the new ship was to track down, and secure an adrift Scorpiad Warship. The crew was allowed a glimpse at the inner workings of the Biological Starship, as various away teams explored while the ship was prepared to be towed by a group of Bajoran Militia ships. However, before the prize could be made off with, the Scorpiad returned to reclaim their ship, and a battle broke out. The Union managed to hold of the Scorpiad ship until the Bajorans could escape, but was heavily damaged in the process, and the Scorpiads scuttled the adrift ship, leaving Starfleet little to show for their efforts.

With the Union now in worse shape then the Excalibur, the crew was given general leave until Excalibur was up and running again. Once it was ready, Starfleet dispatched the ship on a rather easy "Milk Run" of delivering supplies to various colonies and scientific research sights in the Quadrant. After delivering some questionable meditation aids to a group of monks on Theta Begani, the ship begins what might be it's toughest mission yet.

Arriving at their next scheduled destination, Excalibur is forced to send down an away team when no one at the Low-Tech mining outpost responds to hails. What they found could be taken right out of an old horror holo. The away team is attacked by mindless villagers whom are discovered to be possessed by a native parasite found in the planets mine shafts. At the same time, Excalibur is attacked by something similar to an EMP, knocking out power. The ship is then laid siege by horrific creatures similar to the parasites on the planets surface. Believing their only option is to make it to a Starfleet research base 5 Km away, the away team makes that their objective, but is forced to split up due to a collapsed bridge. Garrison leads a team comprised of himself, security officers Victria, and Charlotte Matsumura, and Chief Medical officer Maryse Dubois. After several near brushes with death, including a harrowing battle with a massive creature in the lake infect with the parasites, Garrison's team finally reaches the base, ahead of Corizon's team, who entered via the mines. Corizon eventually reveals that this is no ordinary scientific base, but is actually a top secret Starfleet experimenting with recovered Scorpiad technology. The away team eventually finds the architect of this entire affair, a Dr. Alahn Esmund, who had combined the beign parasites with Scorpiad DNA, creating the horrors encountered. His ultimate goal was to take control of Excalibur, and use it to spread the hybrid parasites. Attacking and impaling Corizon with a mutated appendage, he is eventually killed by Victria, who's apparent psychic bond with the rest of the parasites is severed, killing them all. The away team returns to the battered ship, who went through just as much hell trying to reclaim Excalibur from the parasites, and the crew returns for home, with heavy damage and casualties.

With Corizon recovering from his injuries, Captain Irae Varen is assigned command of Excalibur on an interim basis. Already having a reputation as an extremely unlucky ship, Command dispatches the Akira class to a mapping mission, in hopes giving the crew a much needed "typical" mission. The mission, while less death defying then the last still proves interesting, as the crew discover an derelict freighter on their mapping mission. Garrison, along with the rest of the away team sent over, discover that the crew died of an extremely virulent flesh eating virus, and immediate steps are taken to ensure it doesn't spread to Excalibur. Later in the investigation, Garrison discovers a cache of Romulan weapons on the ship. Varen recalls the away team, and orders the freighter scuttled, and classifies the entire mission. Excalibur returns home with more questions then answers.

Corizon resumes command, though his recovery is questionable. Excalibur is dispatched to provide security between the Dominion, and one of it's member worlds, in which the Federation is mediating. More questions arise about weapons smuggling after another cache of Romulan weapons in medical supplies Excalibur was to deliver to the conference. Corizon has security quietly round up the weapons, and they are transported to a Starfleet intelligence ship, and Excalibur continues on to the conference. Before the ship can arrive however, it is diverted by a distress call discovered to be a Scorpiad ship about to explode. The crew hesitantly beams on board the occupants, several Scorpiad and a handful of Al-Ucard and Eritian prisoners. The Scorpiads announce that a ship will be able to take them off Excalibur's hands in a couple of days, while the crew debates the morality of turning over the prisoners, who will surely be executed by the Scorpiad as terrorists. The science department attempts to open a dialog with the Scorpiad commandant, while medical and engineering attempt to provide nourishment for the prisoners, who live by feeding off other living sentients. Security attempts to keep everyone contained. After an attempt to move the prisoners results in a near escape, tensions rise as it is discovered there is a leak on the ship, and an Al-Ucard fleet surrounds Excalibur, demanding the prisoners release. Corizon, unable to negotiate with the Al-Ucard, since the Federation doesn't recognize their goverment strikes a balance by turning the prisoners over to Semil of the Hundred, allowing the Scorpiad and Al-Ucard to argue over the prisoners, without the Federation stuck in the middle. Mark and Victria eventually come to blows over the events of the past few days, putting a large question on the future of their professional, and personal relationship.

With the Scorpiad incident dealt with, at least in Starfleet's eyes, Excalibur is dispatched to the Dominion world of Bryiam for a trade mission. The inhabitants welcome the crew with open arms, and everyone is granted general leave while Corizon negotiates with Bryiam's leaders. Mark takes young security officer Charlotte Matsumura with him on an endurance race outside the capital city, a grueling event, which is made only worse by events in the city. Marine Commander Major Cloud, and Chief Science Officer Laarell Teykier discover a Romulan disruptor rifle, with a serial number matching the batch discovered on Excalibur only a couple weeks ago. Before the evidence can be examined, a large explosion in the Market, followed by a secondary explosion in the fuel plants, Major Cloud is severely injured in the blast. Things go from bad to worse for Garrison and Matsumura, who are both injured in an earth quake caused by the explosion, the race course and the city both sit on the same fault line. It took nearly two days for the Excalibur crew to find Charlotte and Mark, who nearly succumbed to a serious head injury, however he pulls through, and Excalibur sets off for home, with questions as to how the Starfleet Intelligence ship managed to loose one of the rifles.

At this time, Garrisons is listed as cleared for active duty, and continues to serve as Excalibur's Chief of Security.
