“We Have Ways of Making You Talk”

The cell floor was very cold, as Kairi sat there alone and in the dark. She had been stripped, save for her underwear, which was lucky since most traitors are given much less or nothing. The Imperial fleet officer turned rebel was tired, and trembling. A few bruises littered her neck and back from where that murderer Westler had man-handled her.

Lt. Commander Kansas JoNs was making good time through the corridors leading to the holding cell area, easily sidestepping other officers as she made her way to her destination in the lower office suites. The Caitian feline had only been on the base little over two days, but thankfully she could find her way around quite well. Her thoughts were dark with her mood matching.

Ensign Seltman stood outside the door to Kairi’s cell, looking through the small slit in the door, smirking at her trembling and whimpering. "Shut Up in there, you traitorous rebel!"

But she didn't respond, instead she stared at the cold floor, shivering and whimpering.

Seltman banged on the door and yelled some more. "Shut up!" He opened the door with his code and stepped in, the light partially blinding Kairi.

Kairi shielded her eyes from the light. She tried to focus on the entrance, but didn't have the power to get up and make a run for it. He saw her struggling to get up and out, and laughed. "You should have thought about this before you decided to play hero." He kicked her knee out from under her, making her fall to the ground. She yelped as she hit the ground, and tried her best to scoot away from him. Seltman only laughed cruelly, advancing on her.

He stood over her, and grabbed her by the hand, dragging her to a corner where a chain and cuff hung, a testament to how long this cell had been used. He attached the hand he was using to pull her to the cuff, and left her there, turning out the lights in the outside room. He returned, turning on the red lightblub hanging overhead. He knelt down to her level. "Did you really think you'd get away with it?"

"Leave me alone!" She struggled with the chain, even going so far as to take a swipe at the guard.

The human ensign dodged her swipe, growling. "Was that an ORDER, Lieutenant?" He smirked, and stood back up. He cranked a wheel on the wall, raising her up a few feet by her hand.

"Aaaahhh!!!...." Kairi screamed as she was lifted by her already sore arm. She tried all she could to focus on the guard, but the pain and fatigue fought her. "Go...to...hell..."

Seltman walked up to her and slapped her face. "Not before you, woman." He pulled her hair back behind her, forcing her to look up at the bright light, while using his other hand to choke her at her already bruised neck. "Ghu...." she gasped as the guard squeezed her neck.

He let go of her, walking away for a second, taking something from a high shelf. The male security guard then walked back over to her, brushing her hair back behind a pointed ear, delicately touching it. "How proud are you of your heritage...traitor..." He flicked open a small knife, holding it to her ear.

The feline security lead rounded the corridor at that point, her sensitive hearing picking up on the commotion before actually seeing it. Her visage further darkened to match her mood and thoughts, and then she appeared in the open doorway to the cell, looking feral and dangerous. “Do we have a problem here?" Her ears were flat and her tail switched angrily from side to side.

Seltman looked over at the cat, and smirked. "Not at all Commander, the Lt. and I were just having a... discussion..."

Kairi dropped her head down, letting her hair cover her face.

"A discussion. Without me. And not authorized. Where I come from, this is considered a problem." The Caitian moved a bit further into the cell, her gold tunic and mesh waist sash glittering in the dim lighting. "I may be here on detached duty, but you're still under my command Ensign; I gave no orders for you to interrogate the prisoner Seltman."

Seltman let go of Kairi, moving away from the bruised and battered woman. "My apologies, Commander."

"Too late. Deal with it." Quick as lightning, Kansas drew her plasma shotgun from its leg holster and let loose with a low grade stun blast right at Seltman's chest.

Seltman fell to the floor next to where Kairi was trussed up by the chains, groaning. Kairi watched as the guard fell. Some part of her had satisfaction at the sight. But now she waited for the Caitian to do the same to her.

The feline re-holstered the weapon and then turned her full attention on the former engineer. To the groaning Seltman, JoNs spoke without looking at him, her attention still fixated on Kairi. "Get your sorry butt out of here, and I don’t want to see you for the rest of the shift."

Seltman got up, holding an arm over his stomach, stumbling out of the cell. "Yes...sir."

The prisoner winced as the strain on her arm was to hurt more. She struggled with her other arm to try and free herself from the chain.

JoNs spoke bluntly to the former 'Court officer turned renegade freedom fighter. “I can't stand interrogations. Oddly enough, I've only been a witness to two of them in my career...this will be my first one as a lead interrogator....

"You should...have let me kill him..." Kairi said as she looked up at the Caitian. Her dark hair covering most of her face as she did.

"Let Westler get killed? And then get executed for not doing my job? I don’t think so." The feline watched with a detached manner as Kairi struggled, ignoring the other woman’s obvious discomfort, and then continued with her statement. "I really don't give a flying frag about your resistance group. As long as they aren't shooting at me, I could care less, and they can go on their merry way. With that said? You're my problem now Kassem, and if I don’t get some answers from you, then I'll be the one getting punished for not doing my job. So basically, you are screwed either way and would do well to cooperate a bit.”

Kansas paused, and slowly started to pace back and forth in front of the prisoner. "...why were you after Westler?"

Kairi looked away. "You should know...He's a murderer..."

"Yeah, I know he’s a murder. I can't stand his kind. But, he is a senior commander in the Imperial Fleet, and therefore he has connections. That makes him dangerous as well as untouchable."

"That's why....he must die..." She began to struggle with the chain once more.

Kansas moved quickly, grabbing Kairi under the chin with a big paw. "I need details. Are you a rogue or do you report to a cell leader?"

Kairi resisted as she turned her head away. She wouldn't say anything.

The feline unsheathed her claws and ran one along the side of the former engineer’s face, delicately but still managing to promise violence. "You are not helping my state of mind...."

A slight grin actually crossed the prisoner's tired face. "So sorry...to disappoint..."

"Ah…hell." With no further explanation, Kansas pulled her energy baton from its sheath at the back of her belt, and shoved it roughly in Kairi's side, and thumbed the energy discharge to a low setting.

.

Kairi flinched as the pain surged through her, but she still remained quiet.

"That's only a taste, and I'm trained to get more creative - you served with me, you should know. Give me one scrap of information, and this can end. I don’t need troop movements and such, nothing fancy. I just need one tiny bit of news that I can work with, and then this can stop...." The feline was hedging, trying to do a good job, but her heart was decidedly not in it. Not that she would let on, mind.

"How can I...give you something...if I have nothing to give?"

"You're a cell scout aren’t you? You have no real contact with anyone save your cell leader when they deign to contact you. And I’m sure you get your assignments encrypted.”

Kairi's silence was all the answer Kansas needed.

Kansas went with another tactic. "What about your operating area? Can you give me an estimation of the area that your cell operated in or does operate in, or did you go all over depending on where the job?"

Kairi once again remained silent, looking right in the Caitian's eyes this time.

"Lieutenant, if you don’t cooperate a little with me, you know that I am authorized to hurt you. Badly."

She tried to smile. "I'll be hurt either way..."

JoNs sighed and shook her head wearily. This truly could be a nasty and dirty business, and it was hard to stomach the cruder aspects of serving on the security force. She flicked a small panel inset on her wrist comm., contacting the officer at the brig area receiving desk. "Smathers, prep the Booth....we have a recalcitrant rebel candidate who needs an attitude adjustment..."
