Education

Mount Seleya Monastery, Vulcan : Philosophy, Mental Disciplines and desert survival skills.

SS 433 Observatory : Singularity Physics. Sensor operations. Small craft operation. GSA Studies

Background

Daughter of a rare merger of two telepathic races, she is the product of a selected gene splice rather than a natural conception. Her parents were very happy in their life together, and were perhaps over zealous in trying to pass their daughter their shared heritage. Tia has severe difficulties isolating herself from others, living among crowds, and dealing with highly emotional situations. From puberty, partook in Vulcan science and mental schooling to achieve better mental control while living in a low emotion environment. Completed the kahs-wan, but was judged incapable of the Kolinahr.

Lacking the mental discipline to attend highly crowded traditional universities, Tia served an apprenticeship at the SS 433 observatory first as a sensor operator and later as a small craft pilot of a new generation Event Surfer. Flew numerous close pass missions approaching SS 433’s black hole. Achieved some record flights, not due primarily to skills as a pilot, but by her ability to rapidly assess sensor data in the highly chaotic accretion disk environment. Preferred to fly solo as she found the emotions of others on board distracting. On her last flight for the observatory, achieved the rare distinction of earning in one flight a Distinguished Flying Cross and a censure for reckless endangerment of a spacecraft.

Papers

The Spiral Dance : Visualizing spinning black holes as whirlpools rather than wells, and using near light speed tight orbital velocities to counter event horizon gravitational pull.

Surfing Chaos : Recognizing patterns in accretion disk turbulence. Reducing radiation effects by matching speed with the disk while riding gravitational eddies.

Devils in the Deep : A hypothetical life cycle of giant space amoebas. A proposal for how life forms can absorb energy from gravitational stress within a black hole. Comparisons between black hole environments and GSAs attempting to leech energy out of starships.

Spawning Uphill : To breed outside of the limited community of a given a Black Hole, it is proposed that young male GSA need to leave the gravity well. Why this is not quite impossible. Explanation for why GSA are so ‘hungry’ after the energy depleting climb. Statistical evidence that certain types of GSA are found most often near black holes or on shortest distance paths between them.

Self Generating Warp Fields : A proposal for how the intense gravitational shear energy from an event horizon environment might be used to generate highly energetic warp fields capable of two way penetration of an event horizon.

Starfleet Role

Has not attended Starfleet Academy, but is quite qualified through apprenticeship in operations and certain sciences. Has read the prerequisite command track course work, but is intending to go technical track. By all accounts, lacks command presence.

Special Equipment

Often wears a tricorder goggle set using standard components but worn over the eyes. The purpose is to get the same information as ordinary sight while avoiding direct eye contact with others, and thus prevent inadvertent privacy violation.

Unusual Abilities

Sight empath, touch telepath and touch pain suppressor. Can read many species, but can send only to other telepathic species. Can receive strong emotion or an emotion shared by many people at increased range and without line of sight.

Cultural and Psychological Difficulties

(Confidential. Authorized to command staff, department head and councilor only.)
