Welcome to Starfleet Academy.

All players are human unless otherwise posted.

Official character creation begins only after graduation, must be approved by the GM's, and depends upon the ship/station you are assigned to.

See you on Saturday Night.

I didn't relize that, can I be a Klingon at Redstar?

Red Star is an open, informal, In Character chat. You can be what ever you want, within reasons, in the Red Star. So develop your character there, and when you've graduated and are posted to your Advanced Sim, you can further develop your character for the sim. However, that is with your hosts approval. A Klingon on the either the Hood (TOS-era), Challenger (ENT-era) or Talon (Romulan) (T'Rex, if you could validate that) would not be approved of.

It's strongly recommended that anything outside of ENT, TOS, TAS, Movies, TNG, DS9, VOY-canon be approved of before hand by your Advanced Sim host team. I've been doing this for many, many years (I remember when STSF Dacotah was an Ensign!), and I still bounce things off the heads of my host team.

Within reason? Does reason exist at the Red Star?

I'll add that academies attempt to complete a plot in a one hour time slot. There isn't a lot of time for strong in character play, for a Klingon character to become outraged by a violation of honor, or for a pacifist to make a pretty speeches about violence being the last resort. The hosts are looking for cadets who can follow a plot and move it towards completion, rather than players that portray alien values well enough to bring the plot to a full halt. Even in the advanced sims, where the plots are continued from week to week, where there is far more time to resolve things, each ship emphasizes specific themes and settings. The honor bound klingon on a diplomatic ship, the a pacifist on a special ops ship, or the Delta Quad native on a TOS era ship, just wouldn't be good matches.

Thus, a human character who believes in the basic values of the Federation best fits the academy environment. If you do have a good strong concept of what your character should be, you just might have to spend a little extra time upon graduation researching which ship your character would fit on best.

Warning! If you come to these forums to figure out where you'd best fit, everyone will recommend the ship thay are currently on. ^_^ :D

A bunch of homers, we are.

That's not to say that you can't start investigating before you graduate. Most (all?) ships welcome players who aren't on the sim to watch quietly during their sim time. If you had any questions, you could PM the host(s). Hood is now running as an academy, so cadets can play there.

If you do want to bring an exotic character onto the sim, you should definitely check it out with the GMs of the sim(s) you're interested in before applying.
