All Was Not Well

The mess had been cleaned up and Dr. Mele wasn't back yet. Ritah breathed a sigh of relief. She was grateful Dr. Stone volunteered to help her pick up all those pesky rubber bands Ms. Kenickie had so deftly deposited throughout the Sickbay. She hadn't relished the thought of explaining to the CMO exactly why his facility was sprinkled with little rubber bands.

After Dr. Stone returned to his duties, Ritah was left to wonder about Lieutenant Commander Kansas Kenickie. From what she'd been told, the security officer was now a guest in the ship's brig. Mr. Faldek said they wouldn't be able to charge her with assault unless Ritah filed a formal complaint. The rookie physician wasn't about to do that.

Ritah didn't know squat about Ms. Kenickie. Today, was the first time she'd ever laid eyes on the woman. But Kenickie must have done something right. She'd managed to climb the ranks to Lieutenant Commander. Dr. Lowen wasn't sure what affect an assault complaint would have on the security officer's career. But that was a moot point. She wasn't interested in causing trouble for someone who was obviously good at her job.

At the same time, she would love to have a chat or two with Kenickie....try to figure out why she behaved the way she did. After all, how many people walked into a Sickbay and started shooting rubber bands at the patients as well as the staff. Perhaps, after things settled down, she and the Lieutenant Commander could talk... maybe even become....friends.

Ritah grinned at the thought. "Don't rush things," she warned herself silently. "You probably haven't seen the last of Ms. Kenickie. By the time she finishes with you, she may be the last person you want to be friends with."

Dr. Lowen walked toward the small station she used as a desk and dropped a handful of the rubber bands into one of the drawers. Sitting down, she was about to start on some of the never ending paperwork when she caught sight of Dr. Mele returning from the senior staff meeting. She didn't know him all that well, but there was something about his expression that led her to believe all was not well.
