Fire on board

Dr. Victor Images Personal log

Doctor Images stood by the airlock door in an EVA suit considering his current predicament. The station was partly on fire, he had a captain to take care of with severe back trauma and strangely enough what seemed most troubling was the fact that he’d obviously irritated Lieutenant Muon Quark.

He hadn’t done anything that could really be considered ‘wrong’ but he had forgotten to treat the lieutenant with the proper respect Starfleet demanded its officers received.  For example, it was generally not the done thing on a starship to call a superior officer “girl”. This had been on a major mistake on Images part. A spontaneous urge to encourage the security officer, who had fallen over, probably sounded quite rude, as did Images lack of use of the word “sir” during most of the situation. But what had seemed to really annoy Quark was Images’ decision to go to the airlock before she and Captain Sorehl had agreed on their next course of action. Though Images believed that he had done the right thing, time being of the essence and Sorehl being a Captain whilst Quark a junior Lieutenant (it was not hard to see whose orders had more priority) Images had still heard her shout his name as he climbed the ladder to the next deck.

It wasn’t Victor Images’ intention to be impolite to the Ferengi. It’s just that being in that reactor control centre had sparked a lot of memories inside of him. The flames, the falling metal debris, the chaos, the shouting, the need to escape. It was Kambana 6 all over again. Images felt like he was back there, his parents dragging him through the collapsing research facility. He had therefore let his passion overrule his protocol in order to survive. Images would have to work on that. Deadly circumstances have no place for strong emotions. It had been his Achilles heel ever since the academy. In the future to not offend his superiors he would have to keep them restrained. The doctor knew he would have to apologise to Quark personally after the incident was resolved. But right now something was more important to concentrate on, Images was awaiting Sorehl’s order to open the airlock. When he did, the fire would have no oxygen and would die within seconds. It was the reason for the EVA suit he wore.
