"A Dream Gone Wrong"

It was a beautiful, sunny, bright day -- on the Holodeck, and Tro had a huge, beautiful selection of gagh to match it. He'd even had one bowl dyed pink for his beloved.

"Now... do you want an outdoor or indoor wedding?" he was asking, his mouth full of half-wiggling worms.

Meyvn was staring with distaste at the writhing mass of worms in front of her. Nose wrinkled, she finally peered up at him. "Don't eat that! That is disgusting! How am I ever going to kiss you again knowing that you've been eating THOSE things." She shuddered involuntarily. "When we are married - which will take place in a beautifully decorated courtyard with hundreds of white flowers covering everything while tiny pink butterflies hover everywhere amoung the guests - you aren't allowed to eat that... stuff... ever again. Do you want me to get sick?"

"Mmm... you want me to eat the butterflies instead? That's not a half bad idea; gets rid of the catering costs for hor d'oeurves." Ignoring her protests, he slurped down a few more worms. "Try them, dear; they're delicious."

"Ewwww... No. I'm serious, TroNokins! I won't ever kiss you again if you keep doing that." She took her own bowl, picked up his bowl, and threw them both away as far as she could. Scooting up closer to him, she took a portion of his hair and began to braid it. "Now, let us talk about our wedding. It will be a big one, because I'm sure that all of your friends will want to come see us get married. And I will wear a glorious pink dress with white ruffles and lace and you will wear ... well, it doesn't really matter what you wear because no one will be looking at you anyway, but I'm sure you'll find something that will do. It can't clash with my dress, of course, because that would be horrible."

"Er... I was thinking a wedding here in the holodeck. Maybe with Bch presiding. Something small... and I'd wear my uniform." Tro'NoQ looked pointedly in the direction of the gagh. He also looked pointedly close to sad -- the worms were fresh! And tasty!

"Meyvn, dear... don't play with my hair," he managed, tugging her fingers away. "I like it long, the way it is..."

"But you would look soooo handsome with it braided in little tiny braids." She reclaimed the strand of hair and continued to braid it. "And why do you want a small wedding? Are you ashamed of me? Do you not want to show me off to everyone?" Her lower lip quivered for a moment, but it was quickly gone. "No, we must have a BIG wedding and you cannot wear your uniform. It is too... plain! So we'll be married in a big white gazebo covered with tiny trailing pink flowers and I want the Captain to do the ceremony because that is most important. And then for refreshment we shall have tiny little cakes and cookies and all manner of glorious sweet treats for the guests and some sort of exotic drink that is exceedingly hard to come by and very expensive to replicate. And then we shall not leave your quarters for a week while we try to make the first of our many children." She giggled happily.

Tro'NoQ's head spun, and he looked at the girl seated next to him. "Small wedding. Bch presiding. With bloodwine and gagh." He leered. "But I'll go with you on the last part. Maybe not the "children" part yet..." His thoughts jumped to Presley briefly, and he shuddered. "But... in my quarters for a week, sure!" He patted her leg, affectionately. "No flowers. Not Klingon-ly."

"Trooooo..." She whined, her pretty face now marred by a scowl. Her face was turning all red and blotchy as she began to cry. Sniffling as she pouted, she pulled away from him and crossed her arms over her chest. "This is my wedding! The wedding is about the bride and should be whatever she wants! If you really loved me, you'd let me do whatever I wanted. And we need to have babies! Lots of babies. What would I do if something happened to you? I wouldn't have anyone to love or to love me."

"Uhm..." He shifted, nervously. "They make a lot of noise, Meyviepoo... and they're hard to take care of. You'll want to go back to studying science, no? You wouldn't have time to feed and care for babies on top of that."

"Oh, Tro! You are sooooooooo sweet to think about me like that." Her tears seemed to have cleared up, amazingly. "Once we are married, I am going to be a proper wife for you. I shall cook and clean and take care of our many children and I will be waiting for you to get home right after your shift is over with so that we can spend as much time together as possible." She sighed. "I could never even think of going back into science or medicine. That is your job. I would be neglecting you if I did not see to your every need, including picking out all the new clothing you will wear. I've seen some of those things you put on when you are not in uniform and they are ghastly! Also, we cannot have weapons in our quarters when we have children to consider. You must take down all the blades on your walls and lock them up. It is for safety!"

He looked at her, bug-eyed. "They wouldn't be able to reach them! And I want you to continue your science. I can't have you give that up!" His look was slowly but surely turning to one of anguish. "You don't need to... I mean it!"

"No, I couldn't possibly." Dismissing his concern with a wave of her hand. "I will be too busy organizing your quarters and redecorating and of course we'll need to think about where we are going to live when our children start arriving. Your quarters are going to be too small. You need new furniture and I can reprogram the replicators for all my marvelous recipes which I'm sure you'll love." She was back at his side, clutching his arm and resting her cheek on his shoulder. Gazing lovingly up at him, she fluttered her lashes. "We are going to have such a wonderful life together. You will never want for companionship because I'm going to be at your side whenever you are not on duty."

"That's sweet, but... maybe we're moving too fast. Maybe we shouldn't even get married at all right now." Now he was clearly uncomfortable. "You need some time to settle here, and I don't know if I'm ready for someone to micromanage everything... and children... and, well, last time I saw you, you hated me and were flirting with a Bajoran." He huffed. "I don't know... it's too easy!"

"You don't know what you are saying TroNoPoo." She pressed herself against him, nuzzling at his neck and nibbling at his ear. "Every groom has nervous jitters. It is perfectly normal for you to have second thoughts. But we will get married. And why should it not be this easy? I love you. I want to do nothing more than please you and fill your ever desire and whim. And just think of all thef fine half Klingon sons you will have. Of course, they won't be allowed to fight or play with weapons because that is too dangerous, but they will grow up to be nice young men anyway. Perhaps one of them might go into the medical field, though I'm sure that one will have my creative abilities and explore the arts - perhaps a painter or a dancer!" She grew excited over the prospect. Climbing on top of him, she threw her arms around his neck. 'When shall the wedding be? As soos as possible, of course, but I have to set it all up, so maybe... day after tomorrow?"

"But... but... you're not supposed to be madly in love with me and want to please me and have children with me! You think I'm a pig! And you don't do the arts... you're a haughty scientist and think I'm horrible! Kahless -- you don't even want our sons to be great warriors!" he finally shouted. "What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing is wrong with me! I'm the same as I always was!" She drew back, a bit surprised. "Something is wrong with you, however. Why don't you want this? You said that you loved me! We are meant for each other! I adore you! How can I not want to please you all the time?"

"Because..." he explained, patiently, "it's hard for me to make the switch. You see... you're from a different reality, I think... and the 'you' here died. I couldn't save you or your people from a virus, and you hated me until the end. And now for you to be so damned lovestruck... it's wrong!"

"It is nothing but right, my dearest Tromuffin. How could anyone not love you?" She leaned in again and began to smother him with kisses, winding her fingers through his hair. "We're going..." kiss "...to be so happy..." kiss "...together for the..." kiss "rest of our lives..." Her kisses were so urgent and feverish that she barely gave him time to take a breath, much less talk.

"Get... off!" He pulled her off by her hair. "Kahless, woman -- you're a demon in her body!"

Something had snapped in the long-fused doctor, and he yanked the fawning female to her feet, hands tightly around her throat. He didn't think about it -- he didn't think about anything. It wasn't until a few minutes later, when the facsimile was motionless on the "grass", did he think.

One part of him wanted to lie on the ground next to her and cry. One wanted to commit ritual suicide.

The largest part, however, was relieved.

"Not Meyvn," he reminded himself all the way to the anomaly, where he pushed the corpse back from the hell from whence it came. The deed done, he felt surprisingly good, and moved the supply chest back in front, preventing future disasters.

But as he walked away, he thought he heard a voice.

Elsewhere...

"Oh, dear... we can't have a corpse like this around the Jell-O, can we, Roghie?"
