Vulcan Freedom Fighters!

When we were in Vegas, our booth was right across from the booth of this band called Vulcan Freedom Fighters. At one point I went over to say hi and talked with them for a while, and they said they were having a concert that weekend... I said I was going to try to go their concert but I ended up not making it.

BUT they were really cool guys and I asked them if they were playing in CA any time soon, and they told me that among other places they would be playing in Oakland the following week. Long story short I went to see them in Oakland.

It was a Wednesday night in a not busy part of town in a small bar... so it wasn't very busy. In fact.... the whole evening there were about 9 audience members, including me and my friend. But they still played like it was packed, with all their enthusiasm.

Anyways... they actually have a really unique way of performing. They play videos on a screen that they put on stage.. the videos being compilations of clips from mostly ST: TOS but also other stuff (warning, some of it is pretty weird). And then they play music to accompany the clips... the only lyrics are the dialog from the Star Trek clips. It's really quite neat.

Anyways, in case anyone wants to check them out... the videos online aren't quite as cool, but they have some of them on youtube.

Also, they have their whole first album (they're working on their second) online for free on their website, vulcansrock.com

Check them out!

By the way, for the record I'm not associated with them at all... just a fan trying to give them some more fans.

I'm not with the TOS themed band, but I AM with the TOS themed sim, though... Figure I might as well plug the USS Hood while I'm plugging things. We're recruiting right now for the Hood, Tuesday nights at 11PM EST. Come get hit with foam rocks and encounter aliens with rubber heads! Eat a few donuts in between. If you are looking to join another sim, talk to me or if you're sure, talk to personnel. We have at least one opening in every department at the moment, so take your pick.

Indeed... they use some powerful imagery sometimes. Usually their videos have kindof a social message that they use Trek clips and other clips to get across... Kindof like how most Star Trek episodes try to get a point across, or at least get you thinking..

Do a search on youtube for some of their song names and you will probably find them. Such as the song name "romulan divide"

There seems to be quite a few of these Trek "cover bands" floating around; I remember a couple of them featured on one of the "Trekkie" documentries.
