Stop Playing Nintendo, Do Your Homework!

Man Dies After 3 Day Gaming Session

By: Reuters

A Chinese man dropped dead after playing Internet games for three consecutive days, state media said on Monday as China seeks to wean Internet addicts offline.

The man from the southern boomtown of Guangzhou, aged about 30, died on Saturday after being rushed to the hospital from the Internet cafe, local authorities were quoted by the Beijing News as saying.

"Police have ruled out the possibility of suicide," the newspaper said, adding that exhaustion was the most likely cause of death. It did not say what game he was playing.

China, worried about the spread of pornography and politically incorrect content, has banned the opening of new cybercafes this year and issued orders limiting the time Internet users can spend playing online.

In April, President Hu Jintao launched a campaign to rid the Internet of "unhealthy" content and make it a platform for Communist Party doctrine.

Wow. I think I'll stay with the five hour gaming binges that I do on the occasional weekend, ya know?

And a campaign to rid the Internet of unhealthy content and make it a platform for the Communist party... China can't even keep hazardous materials from consumer products (Made in the USA? Say what now?), and this President Hu Jintao wants to attempt a regulation of the internet? Priorities, president dude, priorities. Sort them out.

Anyway, can you imagine playing on line games for three straight days? I can't, honestly. I love to game... but that is just way too much. Oh, yes, and I do have a life. And people that will check on me if I am gone for three days! And work might wonder where I am! Yipes. That is a bit scary.

I wouldn't know what you're talking about. :)

But three days without a break, that's insane, I don't even want to imagine the headache that'd give me. Let alone the fact that my computer probably wouldn't survive, because I get grumpy and impatient when I'm tired.

Ridding the internet of all unhealthy things would be quite the task, though. (Sisyphus comes to mind)

::returns to his save game of Gothic 2:: (no worries, I'll sleep)

They have cybercafes that are actually open for 3 days straight?

I saw this in the news today. I saw a similar version of the same story a while back, and again a while back. It's been circulating for a while and as far as I can tell, it's fake.

China already regulates the Internet. The sites that their citizens can visit is closely monitored and restricted.
