Blisters & More - Part 1

A joint log by Debbie Matthews, Aaaron Scherer and Kat Shawnsee.

Debbie nodded toward the transporter. "Aaron, maybe you should finish making it look like our transporter shorted itself out," she said. "While you're at it, I'll make it look like Shawnsee was burned when it malfunctioned." (from "Preparing for Company by Debbie Matthews)

With that, Debbie moved aft and rummaged through one of the larger medkits. She found a new tube of plastiskin and a small container of a potent cough medicine that happened to be red in color. She would use them to create fake blisters on the back of Shawnsee's hand and arm. It would look like Kat was standing a little to close when the transporter short circuited.

Schawnsee nodded her approval of the idea. She didn't like the fact those two had gone off. Even though Shamor was Security also, she felt they should have all stayed together. The odds would have been a bit better, in her mind, if they had. But since that was no longer possible, she listened to what Deb had to say.

She followed Deb to the back of the runabout and sat on a bench. She began thinking of how to make the blisters appear even more real. She didn't want whomever was going to find them to see that it was all a fake.

Aaron let out a small sigh as he got to work. He always hated the idea of

breaking stuff that had saved someone's life, unless of course it was the someone he was going up against. He slowly took apart the console using a torch to damage the transporter to make it look destroyed. But he wouldn't touch the key systems. Instead he worked around them, trying to keep the transporter operational. As he worked, he let his mind wander just a bit to what he said earlier about that crazy idea of his, kill myself in some fake break away to try to buy some time. He almost chuckled at the thought, but it was so serious he now let the question of why slip into his mind.

He paused and sat back from his work. He knew, at this point, it was too early for such ideas and a little stupid to think about them. But why had he suggested it? Shaking his head he pushed away the thoughts. He had a job to do and he wasn't going to fail.

As Deb started working on her, Shawnsee asked, "Doc? How are you going to make it look real enough so they won't be able to tell the difference. If they have any medical equipment and they scan me, they will know right away that I'm faking. I'm worried that that will do nothing more than get us caught or make us look even more like we are up to no good here. I can act the part but if scanned ... I don't know what will come of it."

Debbie grinned at the young security officer. "Don't worry, Shawnsee," she replied confidently. "These things will pass close inspection. I'm going to irritate the skin beneath the lesions. Then I'll build up the blisters with the plastiskin and slather them with Dermaline Gel. And rest easy, I'll give you a little Hydrocortilene so you won't feel a thing."

The Reaent's CMO picked up a hypo and dialed the proper setting. Pressing it against Shawnsee's neck, she injected a small amount of Hydrocortilene, one of the most common analgesics in use throughout the known universe. It was routinely found in the emergency medical kits on most ships, large and small. If their guests chose to scan her patient, the presence of Hydrocortilene in Shawnsee's system wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

"That should kick in almost immediately," said Debbie as she looked around for her laser scalpel. "But we'll give it a minute or two before I start chaffing your skin." She looked at Shawnsee and bit her lip. "I don't want these blisters to interfere with your ability to fire a weapon. Where do you think we should put them? Would it bother you too much to have some on the back of your hand and along the outside of your arm?

"Thanks Doc," said Shawnsee. "I was wondering how you were going to do this. As far as where? Sure, the back of my hand is all right, just not to close to my thumb. And maybe back a bit off my knuckles so I will be able to clinch the phaser if I need to. The outside of my arm should be ok. Also maybe the top? Do you think we should singe my clothing as well? I mean to continue with the illusion? I would say the side of my face as well, but don't want to get too carried away. Don't want to over do it."

Anyone knowing Schawnsee would have been able to tell she was nervous about this procedure and being found out. Anytime she was nervous about something she would ramble on and ask question after question before the person she was talking to had a chance to answer the first one. Besides she wasn't the world's best at being a patient in the first place.

Kat sat there watching as Deb started the procedure. She thought to herself, "I'm glad you gave me that Hydrocortilene. That looks like it's really going to hurt later. Might not have to do THAT much acting."

Debbie chuckled at Shawnsee's remark and then glanced at Mr. Scherer who was busy scorching certain parts of the transporter. She was impressed. She hadn't realized he was so good with a torch. The transporter certainly looked damaged. But it would have to be non-operational to convince their guests. She also hoped their engineer would be able to put it back together again...in a hurry if need be.

"How's it going with that thing?" she called out to Aaron. "It's looks pretty rough from over here."

Aaron smiled a bit. "I might of broken a few engineering codes but so far so good. I don't think they'll be able to argue that this baby is fried." Closing his kit as he got up, he moved to the rear of the runabout.

"Also, I just remembered an old trick. It will give us some sort of warning but won't be too noticeable." He placed his tricorder on the table and slowly let it do a passive scan. "If we used the runabout's scanners, we could easily be spotted. But a tricorder scans with such a low frequency and power usage, they would need some very sensitive sensors to pick up on it." He paused still seemingly unfocused. "Also I can hide a small network of these outside. I just have to get a few extra medical tricorders since they are more sensitive. They have smaller transmitter gears but I can boost them to transmit to this one."

Debbie nodded approvingly. "Excellent idea, Aaron. It would be nice if we had some warning before these guys barged in. I brought several extra tricorders with me. Feel free to use as many as you want but, please.....leave me a couple....just in case."

Aaron slowly tapped on a few more buttons on the tricorder, then leaving it, walked over to the doctor. "That one is set though it'll take me a bit more time to prepare the medical ones for the perimeter."

Debbie was focused on the very life like blisters she was creating on Shawnsee's arm and hand. "Thanks, Aaron," she replied without looking up. "But there is one thing I'm a little concerned about," she added quickly. "If we're boarded and they see these tricorders, do you think they'll become suspicious? These things are pretty sophisticated."

Aaron looked at Debbie. "Doctor, this is standard gear. These may be Federation issue, but they are easy to find just about anywhere. I can always remove that one over there, just put it into its kit." He smiled and added, "If they get suspicious, I'll get rid of them."

His smile faded ever so slightly before he continued. "Remember, I have a duty to protect you. I made a promise and I don't intend to break it. So, if we are swarmed both of you will be out of here while this baby lights up."
