Rihan Resurgence Part I

Rihan Resurgence” Part I

Log entry 35: 19 July, 2157

Two Weeks prior:

Outpost 423, Romulan Space, just outside Neutral Zone.

Please consult the Glossary of Terms for rough translations of Romulan words to English.

“Elements!” exclaimed the young Erein manning the long range scanners. “What's the matter?”

said the Enarrain in charge as he looked across the green-lit room at the Erein. “It's the L'loahhnas sir. They seem to be mobilising an envoy of vessels, about five light years away” he replied. The Enarrain walked across the room to over the Erein's shoulder.

“Fvadt! They must have found out us out!” the Enarrain mumbled to himself as he peered closer at the quickly multiplying dots on the radar screen. Indeed, much to his dismay, the dots were now moving towards their location. The Erein at radar estimated their arrival in twenty minutes. The Enarrain cursed under his breath.

Outpost 423 was a relatively small outpost, tucked away in an isolated and uninhabited rock just inside Romulan Space, which borders the Neutral Zone with the United Earth Space Navy. But its location and remoteness made it an excellent location to spy on the L'loahhnas and launch scout and attack vessels to pick off errant ships or attack stations and installations.

“Quickly!” he said, turning to the Operations Officer. “Scramble the fighters and support vessels!” The man at OPS swiveled his chair back to his console. “Ie, rekkhai! Right away” Within fifteen minutes, the base's fighters and a handful of scouts and destroyers formed a defense parameter around the base, in total they numbered about two dozen.

“We are approaching the Neutral Zone sir” said Ensign Camilla Parker, as she maneuvered the UES Columbia ever closer to the disputed region. The war with the Romulans and the Earth forces, continued to escalate as the animosity between the two continued to rise, claiming the lives of thousands on both sides.

“Good” replied Captain Hernandez. “Inform the other ships to bring weapons on line and prepare to engage” The Communications Officer acknowledged and relayed the order to the other twelve vessels, comprising of the NX-Class Columbia, five NV class destroyers, two frigates, three Vulcan ships and an Andorian battle cruiser.

The Earth Alliance convoy stopped and surrounded the outpost, being met by their Romulan counterparts who outnumbered them by two to one. “Hail the outpost. Hopefully we can avoid a conflict here” ordered Hernandez. But before the Communications Officer could carry out the order, they were attacked by the swarm of Romulan fighters.

“Looks like they're not in a talking mood” mused the XO. Hernandez sighed and ordered all ships to return fire. The dozen vessels quickly engaged with the Romulans and were beginning to take heavy damage as the Romulan vessels continue to attack relentlessly. Battered, but defiant, the convoy soldiered on and went on the offensive.

They did the best they could against the Romulan ships, but what they did have was size on their advantages. The Romulan support ships, seemed to only scout vessels and frigates, with a handful of outdated destroyer classes. None of those newer, more powerful warbirds they've heard about in Starfleet Command.

The convoy continued to swarm the support vessels, whilst also dealing with the fighters that targeted more vulnerable areas of the Columbia and her other support ships, such as the nacelles, and weapons systems. But the hull plating held up remarkably well. Hernandez made a note to personally thank the Chief Engineer later.

Led by the Columbia, the convoy continued its push forward towards the outpost as the Romulan fleet continued to get picked up and were beginning to fall back to the outpost. This made the Columbia fleet go even more on the offensive, as the Romulan numbers continued to dwindle. But the Romulans did not give up and continued to mount a healthy volley of torpedoes and phaser fire to the Columbia and her fleet.

Targeting key areas of the ships, such as the bridge, engines and weapons systems, the Earth fleet proved their worth as more of their hits were making their marks against the Romulans. The battle was closely fought, but the Starfleet convoy eventually broke through the Romulans defenses, concentrating their fire on the outpost, most especially the large telescope in the centre of the facility.

Their torpedoes and phasers then focused on the outpost. Soon, all that remained of it, was a smoldering crater. The Starfleet vessels, coupled with the large Andorian and Vulcan ships eventually won out and delivered the same fate the older and less maneuverable Romulan ships and fighters. “That'll teach those pointy eared punks to spy on us” the XO said with a smirk.

Hernandez said nothing. The victorious convoy limped its way back home, their mission complete. The attack dealt a major blow to the Romulans and a great deal of embarrassment. Hernandez knew that they will be hearing from them again. They'll be wanting revenge. But she didn't realise how soon they would carry it out.
