"Quick Recap"

Lieutenant Garnoopy

Personal Log Stardate 50305.04

"Quick Recap"

Garnoopy sat for a moment, on the bridge, absorbing the details of what was going on. There was so much, and so little time had been taken to think about the situation, and all of the details. By the end of this mission, his personal log was going to be award-winning novel sized.

The Manticore was orbiting Proxima Centuri, having returned with the XO of the ship that had overseen the quarantine of the planet.

The Federation file, in which Garnoopy, and most of the crew on the Manticore had taken the information on, was completely false. Romulans had not attacked, no biogenetic weapons had been used against the colonists, and the Federation had lied to the thousands of Cadets and officers who had read the report on this planet.

Biogenetic research, to create a planet-killing weapon, had turned against its creators, and completely killed off the planet. No one had been left alive, and no one had returned, until today.

The Aries, under apparent orders from someone, or some peoples, had attacked their own colony, to destroy all remnants of the research, which so went against all of the Federation's principles, and then frame the Romulans.

Why had they returned? That question had still not been answered, and now, things were getting worse than if the planet had just remained quarantined.

Whatever was on the planet that had killed off the colonists, apparently had managed to get up to the Manticore via the shuttle they had sent down. With two crewmembers dead, it was yet to be seen if they could stop this rampagement of a disease.

Thanks to the "mouse-trap" that Ensign Goad and himself had built, they had a sample of this virus, and had discovered quite a few things.

First, it is not completely a biological virus, it is part machine.  A "nanite". The nanite contains living cells; an actual number is unknown, which help to keep the nanite functioning. The nanite intakes sodium chloride as a fuel source, and outputs the chloride after its power use has been depleted.

Unfortunately, it is not known why this nanite is not completely moving throughout the ship, and has so far remained out of several sections. Ensign Goad and Ensign Bokrah have been working on finding out what is different about the sections of the ship that the nanite has not invaded, but have so far been unsuccessful.

Lieutenant Precip suggested the idea that perhaps, someone who was on the planet before, and is now in sickbay, is controlling the nanite and keeping it from entering sickbay and killing them off, however, that would not explain why the nanites would not have infected the bridge, and removed the persons who would be most likely to be able to fight off this device.

Something with environmental controls is what Garnoopy believed, temperature, humidity, pressure, any one of those could be what is keeping the nanite out, but which one was it?

Garnoopy took a deep breath, and looked back at his panel of readings on the "mouse-trap", the nanites were degrading the forcefield at a rapid rate. Pretty soon, there would be a huge cloud of nanites swarming sickbay, and unless they found some way to prevent the nanites from moving in, or killing people, it looked like there might be a lot of open positions on the Manticore.
