Nirvana

I have recently started to listen to Nirvana songs. I soon began to become a fan of Nirvana, and I am curious f anybody else here likes Nirvana.

No fans as of yet?

I'm not a fan myself but a few favorite songs include Teen Spirit, Heart Shaped Box, Apologies - solid songs by that group. Teen Spirit is the ideal song to blare with the windows of the car rolled down, just cruising down the road.

One thing I never understood (and I don't know if this is still done...probably is though, depending on area) - the mall rats (complete in "grunge" or similiar attire) converging on the local mall on the anniversary of Cobains death.

::makes mental note to get some Nirvana on the personal playlist::

Agreed. I've heard a "Smells Like Teen Spirit" version by Paul Anka the other day and I found that quite amusing. But apart from their well known stuff I must say I haven't paid much attention to them.

Pshaw, you think that's scary? Evanescense makes a bunch of covers of Nirvana, and they have their own song called lithium, which is SOooo bad, makes u think she made it only cuz Nirvana had it.

I never knew people go to the mall on his death. i heard everybody gathers at his Seattle home.

Evanesence Lithium is nothing like Nirvana Lithium. :/

I like both songs though.

If you really want to get into Nirvana then listen to In Utero for some of the best of Nirvana. Don't get me wrong, I like Nevermind too... but I haven't been able to listen to Smells Like Teen Spirit since 95. They played it out so much that now it just makes me cringe. :/

The Unplugged in NY is also a good one to check out. It has one of the best live versions of "Something in the Way" that I've heard.

I'm not a huge fan of theirs in the way that some people are, but they have some really good tunes. :)

Notice i wrote that they made their own song called Lithium(Evansence).

Anyway, i guess it was overplayed(wouldn't know) but i read in a lot of places that Kurt thought that SLTS was part of the corporate machine, so he almost never played it again. Lithium is cool 'cause it talks about a Bipolar patient.

EDIT: Not that I like the fact that people have Bipolar disease. I just like they way they describe all the symptoms in the sentences without mentioning them. Youd have to read the lyrics to understand whta i mean.

:) My iPod thanks you as the list of songs on it could mean that it'd be considered bipolar. :)

But Nevermind's popular tracks were more mainstream/machine.

That's why I said if you really want to get into Nirvana... In Utero is a good choice.

Hey!

Forever in debt to your priceless advice.

I have that same reaction to the "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (1991) theme song - "Everything I Do, I Do For You" by Bryan Adams. Every. Ten. Minutes. Every. Local. Station.

Hair band tune-age meets mythical hero. The song is not on my IPod either. :-P

The unpleasantness of his music was only matched by the unpleasantness of his departure from this world.

I'd much rather discuss the Nirvana of Buddhism and let the dead bury the dead.

I highly enjoy "Desperado" by The Eagles/remake by Clint Black. The lilt of the tune, and the words just take me away so to speak. Sure, it's a cowboy song, but the lyrics can also be applied to anyone who finds themselves "lost", on another life path, and all that.

But that's me - not everyone likes "Desperado".

Vatel, your unpleasantness is merely the reverse of someone else who finds the meaning in or enjoys Nirvana's words/music.

Eh, I'm a decent fan of Nirvana, I can rock out heart shaped box on Guitar Hero 2 like no one else in my town. Although I'm more into death metal and stuff like that, ala Static-X, God Forbid and others. I'm a nearly all music though, if you look on my computer I have everything from Abba to ZZ Top :D

In other semi related news, what the crap happened to Linkin Park? The whole new age punk thing isn't working for me with Minutes to Midnight.

My feelings on Bryan Adams and the early 90s is that Canada owes us an apology (If not compensation for emotional damages.) for that. That and Avril Lavigne. <sp>

As for a good cover: I do mirror those feelings with Johnny Cash's Hurt. I liked NIN's version but Johnny's was more moving. But that's just me. :D

The Eagles, Hell Freezes Over version of Desperado. ::looks at iPod:: Check! ;)

In reference to your observation Vatel, it's really a matter of perspective. It wasn't pleasant music. But considering his life experiences, the music was supposed to be that way. Some people could understand that, and that is why they like their music. ::shrug:: To each their own. It's not music for everyone. And at least on my part, I can respect your opposite point of view. :)

They're making a political statement on Minutes to Midnight. :/

::sigh:: I like it.., but I still like Hybrid Theory & Meteora better.

Some of us were around when Mr.Cash was in his hey day as you might say....and yes,if you knew the mans history, then you understand the song"hurt" ..as Kansas put it so well.

I went out and purchased the last cd/dvd he made, and have it in a place of honor,to you who have not experienced it,look in your music stores, well worth the investment, simply labeled as CASH on the cover(American IV: The Man comes around)... :D
