New Cadet

Hello. My name is Michelle Prentice. I am new to STSF as well as RolePlay in general. I am going to need some pointers and hints along the way. If anybody has any suggestions, I would really like to hear them.

Thank You

::clears throat::

Welcome!

Two things to remember: 1) Any Academy hosted by STSF N'Dak is a guaranteed suicide mission [And that's a direct quote from his signature]. 2) Never compare the GMs to Captains Bligh or Queeg if you want to get graduate sometime before the turn of the century.

That being said, I'd recommend reading: How to sim, as well as: Tips from the Moose

It's not difficult to get into the swing of things. Just make sure you read through our brief getting started guide and you'll be fine. Hope you enjoy your stay here!

Biggest thing is common sense. If you're in Engineering, don't suddenly discover the miracle cure we need for the mission.

And a big thing: If you want to graduate one night, it would probably be in your best interest if you didn't insult the GM. :)

But mostly, just read what the GMs post for you, and run with it as best you can.

A few unwritten rules. Before the sim starts, don't say "Are we ready yet?" It is considered bad luck. It takes the hosts time to get things set up, and keeping hosts in a good mood is a survival trait.

Similarly, when the sim is over, don't ask if anyone is graduating. The unwritten rule is that if anyone asks, no one graduates.

These two rules can be combined under a hard to understand strange alien concept, difficult to comprehend, harder to assimilate, which goes by the name of 'courtesy.'

There are other advanced principles to master, as Razor hinted at above. The chain of command... (You are a doctor, not a magician!) Advance the plot at a pace so things wrap up just before the hour... (For some strange reason, attacking the bad guy works much better at 8 minutes before the hour than at 15 minutes past.) You might even find yourself trying to figure out whether the host wants you to solve a problem or follow a plot... (If the plot involves exploring a new wormhole, attempts to solve the problem of staying out of the uncharted wormhole are apt to fail miserably.)

Still, none of them will get you too far if you lose track of courtesy.

Hey there,

A good recommendation as well is to read the FAQ located under the Help section of the website. It has quite a bit of information that you might find helpful. :)
