Live Chat

When ever I go to open Live Chat it takes a while what can I do to speed it up?

Hey there,

You may have an outdated version of Java on your computer. Head over to www.java.com and make sure you have the most recent version. :)

Run it for spyware as well.

If none of these things work you might have to uninstall ALL your Java and then download the most current version. Java does occasionally become corrupted.

Of course, the other thing to keep in mind is that sometimes, it's just slow. Mine sometimes loads up in 15 seconds, sometimes in 5 minutes, totally at random. I have the latest Java, a clean system, etc, and there's just no telling. (Actually, it seems to get slower with each Java update)

And... nobody asked what kind of connection the original poster is using. If it's dialup, there's really nothing you can do that will make it any faster. The chat applet transmits very large amounts of data.

I am using a wireless network but on the other end of the network is broadband(it is secure)

Security is actually not the issue (at least not here). If anything, encrypting the connection would make the throughput slightly (but usually not noticibly) slower. It's the raw speed of your connection. Wireless connections can be a bit tricky because the speed/error rate depends somewhat on the distance between you and the wireless router, the walls, and other factors that affect signal quality.

Have you ever tried measuring your throughput speed? There are a number of sites that can do that. One of them is at http://www.speedguide.net/speedtest/.

I ran out and got McAfee and ran a scan on my computer and that was not the problem so I went to the website LoAmi suggested and it was fine there so I got a CD that came with my computer and returned it to "Just out of the box state" and now it seems to be loading Live Chat just fine (quite fast really) Thanks everyone

Hi there,

As far as I know your message board name is linked to the chat program. That means, whatever you use to login to these boards, you can use to log into the chat. Hope this helps!
