"A Brief Interview"

Kania stood and walked with the doctor, still feeling a bit down knowing what might lie ahead of her. She was still worried about what will become of her daughter if she were to be convicted, even though BluRox had promised to have Schawana transferred to be close to her.

"Are you all right, Sir?" Fiona asked. "I am rather sorry you had to go through all of this."

"It's not your fault, Doctor; I got myself into this. It's my own fault. I hold no regrets against anyone."

"Holding it against yourself can't be healthy either," she stated, leading her into the station's medical center. "I'll try to keep this short and succinct, but remember that positive results here can bolster your case. This physical could be for the best."

Kania stepped in the facility behind Dr Weber. "I understand doc. I'm not going to fight or refuse anything. I know that will only makes things worse for me. Where do you want me?" she asked, her voice still sounding depressed.

"That biobed," she motioned to the nearest empty one, snagging a nearby medical tricorder. "If you will."

Kania noddeds and pulled herself up on the biobed indicated. She lay back and remained quiet while looking up at the ceiling of the facility. Her will to fight had been crushed. She literally had no fight left in her. She just laid there and allowed the Doc to do what she needed to.

"Start with the brainwaves again. You know, I never thought that I'd see a day when I'd admit to being tired of studying electromagnetics. Always so fascinating," Weber rambled. She brought the unit across Kawalas' forehead. "You ever do anything in science or medical before you became a figure in the command hierarchy?"

"Aye, I graduated from the acad with a medical degree. I returned to the Academy when I found out that my Academy sweetheart was on the Republic and the only opening they had open was Engineering. I received my Engineer's degree and asked to be placed here. So to answer your question, yes I have worked in medical." Kania closed her eyes as the machine was once again placed over her head.

Fiona was surprised. "Well, at least you understand all the little babble I was tossing at the council. I don't believe everyone had that luxury." She moved away from the woman, uplinking her padd to a console screen. "Well, your brainwaves are still normal. Won't that throw them?"

Kania did not move. "It might but then again they may say that it was temporary."

"Temporary shouldn't recur only when you get scanned. Now... oblige me for the mental portion, even if the questions aren't the most impressive. Do you still believe that you were possessed by one of the prophets through an Orb Vision?"

"Yes; how would I have known where to find my people if I wasn't. I'm only semi-familar with this area. How would I have known they were underground on that planet, unless I was led there by something?"

Fiona nodded. "And do you feel any remorse for what you've done, or do you think the blame should be placed elsewhere?"

"I might have been under the influence of the orb but I did what I did of my own free will. I feel great remorse for those that passed on becuase of what I did. There is no one else to take the blame for what I have done. I admit to disobeying orders, and the theft of Federation property." Kania took in a deep breath as a tear began to fall from the corner of her eye. "I ... I..." She just let out another sigh and became quiet.

"There, there. Anyone can make mistakes. You must not blame yourself. You didn't kill them -- someone else did, and you had no way to know how it would end. Any procedure that any person enacts has to go one of two ways: good or bad. Someone else got the right end of the stick for that round, and we just have to make sure you get the right end now, in court."

Kania turned her head to face the doctor. "Look Doc, it is my fault. If I hadn't taken the shuttle to begin with then the Marines would not have had to be sent to look for me. Also BluRox wouldn't have had to send a rescue team after me, and Rian -- I mean Commander Kwai -- would not had been subjected to the torture she had to take. Nor would the rest of the away team. So you see it is my fault. No matter how you say it, they are right. I am guilty." Kania turned her head to once again face the ceiling.

"Well, do you want help in the proceedings, or not?" Weber almost snapped.

"What do you mean? I'm answering your questions honestly. Isn't that what I'm supposed to do?"

"I know you are. But a defeatist attitude won't help you out there in the courtroom. And yes, this is now off the record."

"My apologies. What do you want me to say? I cannot lie and tell the judge that it will never happen again. It might happen tomorrow, It might happen next year, It may never happen. I do not know."

Fiona sighed. "At least I can report back that you're a very honest individual."

Kania sat up on the biobed. "Then we are finished here?"

She nodded in reply. "My thanks for your cooperation."

"Doctor, I had no choice. This was ordered not just by Admiral BluRox but by the court as well. If I declined, It would be an instant mark against me. But thank you for hearing me out. "

Another cordial nod as she downloaded her results into a compressed file for presentation. "Any time. Now... we'd better get back."

Kania nodded as she slid off of the biobed. She looked up towards the exit doors and saw the two guards that had followed them. They parted the way, allowing the two to walk past before falling in behind them. "I'll be glad when this is over Doc."

"You're not the only one. You're really not."
