Open Ensign Here!

When I saw Reaent's open post in medical, I took advantage of it, and now, in almost every academy, I try to play other things, but...Because of my name, I get stuck as CMO.

The Reaent did put into Medical because of your name, but not your sim name.  We just thought it would be funny to have a doctor with a name that is pronounced "hurts".

Hey there,

Let me chime in here.

As someone else pointed out, one of the biggest issues with a public database is keeping it current. Openings aboard sims change on a moment's notice and I may not have the time to update a website for a few days. Now, this isn't to say the idea presented isn't something to look at in the future, but it would have the setback of sometimes being inaccurate.

On the application it asks a simple question, "Do you want priority given to your post selection or sim selection?" With over thirty-five graduations since we started, I think I have only had perhaps a handful of people say they were more interested in the position than the sim. Most times, the situation boils down to schedule. You will take a sim that you can attend. What's the point in having an ASEC slot on a game you'll never be able to make?

In addition to the above, many advanced sim GMs consider their rosters confidential. Some sims have more people than others. I would be very hesitant to list openings because it might give new players an unfair view that one game is better than another.

Hope this helps. :o

Well actually I have one question right now, why is the word New red everywhere in the last two posts?

Yep, I agree with Mr. Goad.

I joined Reaent because I wanted something close to the weekend. So I had a choice between Aegis and Reaent. Then I decided that living on a ship might be more fun than a starbase. Now, when I found that the only post open on Reaent was medical, it didn't matter. I had chosen my ship and not my post.

I concur doctor. I chose Aegis mostly cos of it's timing and because i hoped it would be something like ds9, IT'S NOT! but i love it anyway! Medical came as a surprisingly fun post, theres almost always something fun to do.

My 10 cents, (no smaller denomination in Hong Kong)

I look at that as a way to brush up on my medical skills, so one day, when I become Reaent's CMO, I'll be the best Medical Officer I can be!

Now I say:

::looks around:: If anything mysterious happens to me, now y'all know who was responsible.  :-)

Hey there,

The reason that word is showing as red is because you used the "New Posts" link at the top of the board.

What it does is use the board's search feature to find the posts that are new since your last visit.  One of the other things the board does is highlight the key terms you use in the search feature.

So whenever you find the word "new" in a post, it will highlight it, thinking it was part of the original search query.

Hope that helps.  :o

Thanks Admiral, didn't know that was possible. Then again if I had it my way, we'd still be using Commodore64s. ;-)

Commodre 64's?  Ewwwwww.....  I'm having enough issues with my old 386 doing anything I want it to.  LOL.  (So much for playing Starfleet Command Volume III on it :o )

Well actually with some of today's hardware, a HD, extra ram. The Commodore 64 was an excellent machine, way ahead of its time. Since it didn't have things like HD's to let it show its true potentail.

I still also prefer not having to have seperate power outlets for the 5 1/2" disk drives.  :::Grins:::

Hey there,

But...those 5 1/2 made great fans if your AC was out. :o

I've actually got a few 5 1/2's decked out on one of the walls in my place.  Along with the AOL floppy disks, CDs, etc.  :o

LOL. Trying to make a Leaning Tower of AOL?

Hmm, learning tower of AOL? That's an oxymoron, but I will admit it's a tower to the headaches of the ages for computers.

I've got a dart board on my wall across from my desk.  I've actually put a big AOL logo on it.  ::o:

It's a great stress reliever after a long day.  Especially after having internet troubles.

Heh.... depends on if you can hit the dartboard or not. Otherwise, your day can become even more stressful.   :o

Hey there,

Only way for that to happen would be if the dart suddenly slowed down and barely moved an inch towards the dartboard in a minute. Then you would know things were getting worse. :)

Well actually if the dart slowed down, and Q poped up ready to "test" you. Then you've got more problems then all the computer techs have in a year.

My fave version of AOL was 1.5. Since then they keep adding useless crap, but you can't run older versions without endless unstoppable *new features!* downloads.

Back to the original subject...

When I first started simming (and I won't tell you when since some of you were still in diapers) I played medical and counselor a lot, because I felt comfortable there. And I created characters around those roles.

Later I branched out and played helm, tactical, security and even dabbled in science and engineering. I still try and stay away from engineering, mostly cause I end up with ensigns who know far more about why stuff works than I do.

And strangely enough, I rarely play medical anymore. Prolly cause I do enough of that in RL that I don't need it for fun.

The one I did learn is that creating a character to play a specific post is the wrong way to do it. Create a versatile character and then as you grow you can move around. Ziggy has played tac, helm, security, a marine and a science officer on the Arcadia. And the great thing is, he has the flexibility written into his character to do that.

Just my five bucks.
