A Joint Log - Blue Boy and Fuzzy

05.25.07

UES Challenger NX-05

Written by: Ensigns GallusKek Th'Gos and Shaow JoNs

Ensign Shaow JoNs narrowed her golden eyes at the Andorian. "I said - why does that screen have something regarding "Andor" on it Ensign Gallus?" Her purred voice carried within the confines of the engineering bay.

With obvious confusion, he looked at the console before him, "What? I'm just accessing some formulas on a university site.

Shaow attempted not to twitch. "Gallus - you requested asylum - you cannot be accessing any Andorian files right now! It is a breach of protocol. The Challenger could be held culpable." Must not pounce...no pouncing...do not jump the Andorian...

Gallus responded with an innocent tone. "Its not like I was uploading our logs to the database or receiving covert orders, I was simply retrieving some formulas that your computer was lacking." It then dawned on him how suspicious his choice of words sounded.

The newly promoted Caitian security chief hissed. "Ensign, listen to me very carefully, as one junior officer to another. For right now, you are NOT supposed to have any contact with your home world until we get your situation of political asylum sorted out. Yet, you were downloading Andorian formulas into the Challenger database? And said download can be traced here to the ship? Not. Good."

Antennae pointing at her with menace. "We need these formulas! Without theme our hull polarization might as well be off, we won’t make it through the wormhole!"

As with the antennae, the fur on JoNs's neck ruff and tail were starting to puff out, an indication that she too was losing patience with the conversation.

The Andorian stares at the security cat, she stares back.

Shaow finally broke the stare-off. "Mister Gallus. I admire your perception, and yes, I am sure the figures will help us with regard to the return wormhole trip. But," and here she put an emphasis on each word, "...you should have asked your chief, Westler, to inquire into these formulas, as you are currently a liability to us."

"A liability?! While Westler is on the bridge playing Captain's mate, it falls to me to pick up the slack and for a decision as simple as this, there was no need to consult the acting XO and disrupt whatever crisis they might be having. Maybe that’s why Cat-ships are so ineffective, too much talking not enough action!"

Her tail started to lash. "Why in the veken universe is everyone on this ship automatically assuming that the Caitian Fleet is incompetent! And don’t change the subject you blue refugee!"

"An assumption? Mais non, an ineffable truth! You are here, are you not? Interrupting the work that would get the ship back to Earth. I am but a cog in the machine that drives this ship, you are the monkey wrench."

She really didn't want to know where an Andorian had picked up snippets of what sounded like an Earth language. Shaow stalked two paces away, and then two back to face Gallus again. "You must understand my position, that from a security standpoint, this is not the most ideal situation."

”What are you going to do, club me with your tail? Purr me into submission? Get your blonde fur all over my console? Beating up a refugee who has nothing but your best interests in mind won’t go down well with your superiors!"

JoNs visibly got a handle on her rampant emotions. Gods, this man was infuriating. "No! I am not going to any of that - I would like to knock your blue rear end into the next century just on principle, but I am not." She paused, a decision made, and lowered her voice. "I am however, going to keep this between us, for now..."

Realizing this is the equivalent of getting a cat-hug from JoNs, he didn’t push his luck, “How very kind of you, now get out of my sight, I have work to do and your fur is getting all over my console."

Ensign JoNs raised a paw "One more thing Your Blue Highness - in order to acquire these formulas that may help the Challenger bypass the spatial distortion - did you bypass the regular comm lines to access the Andor University?"

"If I hadn’t, there'd be Andorians coming through the wormhole just about now, I tried to mask the origin of the signal, and yes, that meant bypassing normal communications."

"...so Lieutenant TParek probably hasn't picked up on the outbound line, at least not yet?" A smile lit the formerly brown furred, and now blonde, feline’s features.

"No.. not yet, but undoubtedly she will when she checks the comm logs." The Vulcan would want to berate him again...

Oh my. The Vulcan...Shaow would just avoid said Vulcan. Yes, that would work... "Fine, fine. We'll worry about that later, along with everything else. You have my word I will keep silent on the origin of the formulas for now. Mister Gallus, just do whatever it is you and the other engineers need to accomplish in order to get this human rust bucket home. " The Caitian chief then held out her paw in the gesture she had learned was the "human handshake".

Gallus, wary of the sharp claws grasped her paw gingerly and shook. "Without further interference we should be ready to brave the dangers, provided that the wormhole does not present any unknown behavior."

Without relinquishing the grip, the blond Caitian leaned in and looked right at the blue skinned Andorian. "....and I suggest you watch your back Gallus…”
