"Bug Out"

05.16.07

USS Excalibur

“Bug Out”

Lieutenant jg. JoNs double timed it along with the rest of the infiltrator away team as they bugged out – pun, intended even – of the Scorpiad held communications facility. The surprise appearance by Jem Hadar forces and the subsequent fire works aided the commando team as they attempted to remain as inconspicuous as possible.

JoNs, Lt. Commander Laarell, Security Chief Segami and Ensign Doug, along with a few other team members that had been picked up along the way were making good time after completing the disruption task, and it looked as if the mission that had gone completely fubar would turn out alright after all.

However, Murphy had other plans, as was proper (and annoying).

The Caitian security officer, maintaining the rear guard position, froze for a second as the team cleared the corridor and entered what appeared to be a decrepit lounge area; the team was currently moving parallel to a section of bulkhead separating one section of the lounge from another, and had not yet spotted the two Scorpiad waiting for when they emerged into the farther open area. Without shouting or signaling, the feline moved from the corridor into the lounge and fired two quick rifle shots, striking one of the bugs in the chest (at least, she was hoping it was the chest) and the other in what appeared to be a leg. The rest of the team responded in kind a few seconds later and began peppering with the two Scorpiads with their energy weapons as they scrambled for whatever cover presented itself.

A chittering suddenly sounded in her ear comm piece – the third member of the ambush party who had been concealed in the small alcove off the lounge.

Left Ear turned, bringing her rifle to bear on the target, and was promptly smacked with a pincer. She fell to the decking and her rifle skidded away from her reach. Scuttling quickly backwards, she went for some distance as the large, hard carapaced arachnoid chittered and hissed as it moved closer, stinger poised and ready to strike.

The most deadly weapon that the Scorpiad possessed was that stinger tail – she needed to take it out first. Trusting her reflexes, the feline officer leapt forward and ducked beneath the grabbing pincers of the larger bug, coming around and grabbing at the stinger tail.

Good attempt, but the bug was having none of this; with hardly any effort at all, it reached around and plucked at JoNs with a pincer, flinging the Caitian away as if she weighed nothing.

Left Ear flew in an arc toward the opposite side of the room, the chittering hissed battle cry of the Scorpiad following in her wake and echoing across the confines of the lounge. She caught a brief glimpse of a Starfleet issue EV suit as she flew over the team before impacting with a table and then the decking. A small crack blossomed across her faceplate. The dull gray of the bulkhead rushed sideways to meet her...and then there was nothing but darkness…
