Galactica Ending After Season 4

Hey there,

According to reports that are just now appearing online, in an interview with Edward James Olmos and Katie Sackhoff, Battlestar Galactica's Season 4 (which is now filming and will be shown in January 2008) will be the final season of the show. This comes after a few interviews by Ron D. Moore indicating that he did not see the show having too many more seasons due to the "arc" nature of the franchise (heading to Earth, eventually need to get there or die trying). More information can be found at http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_conte...3&Itemid=99.

Shame... :)

To be honest I thought the writers kinda lost it with that whole "All along the watchtower" theme for the end to season 3.

BSG ending after four seasons due to it being an arc type of franchise (in Mr. Moore's terminology)? So, in laymans terms, it was intended more as a mini-series all along rather then a straight TV series.

You know, I understand letting a show ride off into the sunset at its high point rather then letting it die a slow death...but where does that leave the fans? High and dry it would seem.

Just be glad they may not have decided to reimage "Galactica:1980". :) Or spin it off like JMS tried to do with "Crusade", the Babylon 5 spin off, which died a quick death. Arc type series tend to do that, they build up a fan following through out the length of the series, and then when it ends, everyone seems disappointed, even though it was expected. Of course, that's why there are DVD sales, video games, and groups like STSF to keep the magic alive.

Hey there,

Well, be careful about Crusade. The concept was good but the network, TNT, started making "required changes" to the show which ranged from showing episodes out of order to changes in their uniforms (to even required plot developments). That isn't happening on BSG...

I think there is something to be said for the idea that this isn't a "space exploration" show. They have a goal, get to Earth. Eventually, if they don't get there or die, the audience is going to figure out that the entire point of the show will never be realized.

I think they "jumped the shark" in that scene where Pegasus rescues Galactica during the New Caprica rescue. It is still a very good show and worth watching but it is starting to decline.

I love BSG and would not be upset if they ended the show after 22 more episodes. I'd rather them end on a high note a show with excellent reviews...and not stretch something out just for syndication purposes which Trek did.

We've seen about the best battle scenes they can throw at us when Pegasus was around, also the best written material (early season three) since the show started. I LOVE the fact Galactica looks like it's going to fall apart from all the knocks it's taken. I think it reflects the ship's journey's end being soon.

'Battlestar' goes on, Sci Fi says

By Andrew Wallenstein

May 14, 2007

Sci Fi Channel has not decided to end "Battlestar Galactica" after its upcoming fourth season, despite comments made to the contrary by some of its cast members at the Saturn Awards last week. "Battlestar" star Edward James Olmos was quoted saying the next batch of episodes were definitely the last ones, but Sci Fi released a statement Friday from executive producer David Eick. "For those of you have been paying attention over the years, this is not the first time Eddie has made an announcement about the possibility of the show's end," Eick said. "I promise you that when [executive producer]Ron [Moore] and I make a decision about 'Galactica's' future, we'll let you know."

It might have been a false alarm folks.

So Mr. Olmos has stated "the show will be done after such and such" a couple of times prior? ....maybe Eddie wants the show to be done.

The producers need to reign in their lead actor.

Confirmed! Season 4 to be the last season of BSG.

Battlestar ending next season

The producers of SCI FI Channel's Battlestar Galactica confirmed that the upcoming fourth season will be the show's last. Executive producers Ronald Moore and David Eick said that it was a creative decision to end the acclaimed series with the upcoming 22-episode season.

"This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and, finally, an end," Eick and Moore said in a statement on May 31. "Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms. And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there: We're going out with a bang."

In November, a special two-hour Battlestar episode, "Razor," will air. The fourth season kicks off in early 2008.

At last month's Saturn Awards, Edward James Olmos said that the upcoming season would be the show's last, prompting Eick to say at the time that no decision had been made. "I promise you that when Ron and I make a decision about Galactica's future, we'll let you know," he said then.

Personally I think they "jumped the shark" during the battle to rescue the people on New Caprica. Specifically I mean the scene where the Galactica is taking heavy fire from 4 Baseships, and it looks like certain doom, and then Pegasus swoops in out of nowhere with every missle bay active and destroys 3 Baseships - 2 before the Pegasus's destruction and 1 after.

I think that was the most exciting moment in the whole series. They will never be able to top that. The show is still worth watching, and is still one of my favorites, but it is going downhill.

My prediction is that the legend of the 13th tribe is not so much a legend as it is a prophecy. I think we will learn that the survivors of the 12 tribes ARE the 13th tribe.

Sad, very sad. I think BSG is one of the best shows on tv. But, I do think that they did originally mean for the series to run only a few seasons or a little more. Gonna be sad to see it go.
