“Ghost of the Vortex"

05.07.07

USS Agincourt NCC-81762

“Ghost of the Vortex”

JoNs double timed it down the corridor, her mind working as she compiled a mental report for the marine colonels regarding the interrogation of the Soltan prisoners.

Entering the confines of the turbo lift, she growled out “Bridge!”, and the conveyance obediently started to wisk her to the destination.

Y’l’Sai, a speaker for the prisoners, had kept insisting that taking the Soltans from their people was unlawful and against regulations, and that the Agincourt crew would be dealt with by the Soltan leaders.

The conversation kept replaying over and over in her mind…

"I am Y'l'sai. Why have you taken us from our people? This is an unlawful act, against regulations."

"Whose regulations?"

"Just regulations, Chief. All regulations must be followed. You are in violation - you will be dealt with."

…was she missing anything of importance? Gods, interrogations could be a pain in the rear – this question, that question; the answer that may or may not be a lie. Even though her Caitian pacifism and officer training usually won out over her baser instincts, there was something to be said for the ease of an injected truth serum or a good shot to the mouth.

The Caitians mood darkened as she exited the lift onto the bridge and jogged toward the Ready Room. That little petaq Y’l’Sai. Oh sure he might be indirectly responsible, but his people were still a group cause of the Agincourt being stuck in the middle of nowhere. Another lovely complication was the fact that these blue skinned plastoid type aliens could turn others after prolonged exposure into Soltans. Now, how screwed up was that?

Intent on her thoughts, the Caitian began muttering to herself. “…and the little so and so has the nerve to refer to me as chief…I don’t know where it got that...” JoNs stopped cold in her tracks, right there on the bridge as another disturbing thought smacked into her at warp nine. She hadn’t introduced herself to the prisoner as Chief JoNs, had she?

Y’l’Sai referred to her as chief because it…or he...had a previous knowledge of her?

Great Bird, was the Soltan former security crewman Carter Burne? He had been taken from the ‘Court via one of those vortex’s…was he turned by the Soltan?

Her mood darkened even more. Kansas rose onto her hind paws and chimed for entrance to Harper’s ready room. She had an extreme aversion to the facts and speculations she was about to impart to Colonels Harper and Day.
