Guest Laarell

"In a Divine Experiment"

Laarell was frozen for a moment, watching the blastdoor for signs of movement.

... who was she kidding? The Scorpiad knew they were there. Their luck wasn't good enough that they'd be able to safely and happily make it through. Their green security officer was right; the closest they were going to come to success would be to abort.

But they weren't going to. At least there was something she and the operation's leader were in agreement on. It wasn't much, but it was something, at least. Something to rally behind while every other facet of this... debacle was the right word, blunder the overally negative one... went awry.

The cynic within told her that at least if she died, she'd be able to say 'I told you not to do that' in the afterlife. If there was an afterlife. She was starting to doubt it, along with every other preconceived notion of The Way Things Were in the Galaxy.

And if there were deities at the helm... well, it seemed the gods didn't love the Federation any longer, and the idea that they did wasn't something that she could go on believing blindly. Were they amused by the hardships being faced in the Gamma Quadrant, quietly sitting their with sinister gleams in their eyes as they rolled out their divine, deadly dice to determine the hapless mortals' fate?

Sometimes... it seemed like that was the most plausible explanation.
