The First Days

"The First Days"

Stardate 0703.22

A Log by Midshipman Kevin Anderson

Kevin was exhausted as he dragged himself into his quarters after his shift. The first days on the new station had been filled with work for him, no exploring and luckily hardly any getting lost. Instead he had spent his days in the lab going through subspace transmissions and charting them. He had gotten through quite a lot of those but sadly the final break through was missing.

They had concluded that, as wormholes constitute a disturbance in subspace, there might occur such a thing as "subspace lensing" which basically meant that subspace messages would get distorted, however slightly, before a wormhole opens. Which would give them a chance to localise them before they open. The subspace communications around Bajor were perfect for his research which is why he had been pouring over recordings of those for hours. He had been able to verify the theory of subspace lensing, sadly, so far he hadn't been able to detect any until shortly before the wormhole opened.

Kevin chose to spend the rest of the evening in an armchair, he didn't even bother to take off his uniform. All he wanted now was to sit back and relax. "Computer, music, something relaxing", he was even too tired to come up with something specific. He closed his eyes as the music started, and he thought "quite soothing indeed". He allowed himself to get lost in the music for a moment, then he opened his eyes again and looked around his quarters. So this was his home now. They were standard Starfleet quarters, nothing special but more than enough for him.

He got up and went over to the replicator to get himself some orange juice. As he picked up his glass and turned around he looked outside the window. All of a sudden he felt lonely, he hadn't had the time to go and meet other people. But at the same time he was sure that he would find a home here on Aegis, and there would be plenty of time to make friends.
