Kevin Anderson

Home Sweet Home

Kevin was on his way back to his quarters on the USS Lewis. He had been assigned to Sky Harbor Aegis but as that had been destroyed by the Breen his first mission had been on the USS Lewis in the Gamma Quadrant. As he walked along the corridors he thought about everything that had happened since he'd left the Academy. He knew that his place wasn't on a star ship, he was a biologist and linguist, no astrophysicist, and it had been quite a challenge for him to always have an answer to the senior officers' questions. Fortunately he'd had a great deal of help from more experienced officers.

As the doors of his quarters opened before him and he entered he took a look around and was looking forward to getting to settle and make himself at home somewhere soon. Kevin sat down at his desk and looked outside at the stars rushing past and thought that a star ship, although it was very challenging, did have its advantages. Something new came up during almost every shift. He had to deal with things that would never have occurred on a station and he had to improvise, come up with solutions quickly, he had quite liked that. But he also knew that right now he'd be more comfortable on the station until he was able to get more experienced. One thing, however, he had learned fast, to think outside the box. As a science officer, that he realised now, he wouldn't be able to always just apply science but to push it forward and come up with new explanations.

Kevin sighed as he turned around and took a PADD with some data and said to himself “Welcome home Midshipman Anderson”, because he had just realised that his home would never be a station or a ship but it would be Starfleet. Then he chuckled “Midshipman Anderson”... it had a nice ring to it. As he shook his head at his own silliness he turned to his work.
