Family Matters

(Here's a little crossover log for you guys to enjoy.)

Left Ear sat at a little table located on the outside patio of "The Lame Duck", a bistro situated just off the bay and a popular destination for civilian and fleeters alike. She was staring out across San Fransico Bay, watching the hoverboats float this way and that, but her thoughts were decidedly elsewhere.

Maria was walking down the walkway towards the cafe. She noted to herself how lovely the day was. It was perfect for lunch outside. Arriving at her destination, it wasn't hard to pick out Left Ear among the crowd. She walked up to the table. Ever the doctor, Maria was still wearing her white coat. "It's a beautiful day," she smiled. "It's so good to see you again M'Vess."

The tawny furred Caitian got up quickly from her chair and gave her former comrade a welcome hug. "Snuck up on me. How are you Maria? It's been a while." Her happy purring was evident.

Giggling from the feel of the fur, Maria returned the hug. "I'm doing well. And by the looks of things, so are you." She releases herself from the hold and took a seat across from her friend. "I hope you haven't ordered yet. I'm starving."

"I am doing well, aye. We've both come a long way since the Excal days. And no, I haven't ordered; I was waiting on you. They have a shrimp dish here that is to die for, and it very much has my name on it."

Giving a supposititous smile, Maria nodded. "I hear the salads are good here."

Left Ear chuckled. "Everything is good here. Hang on, let me harass a waiter." She waved a paw in the air to get a server's attention. After the drinks and food had been ordered, the Caitian Lieutenant Commander asked her companion. "How are things going at Fleet Pediatrics?"

Maria takes a sip of her water. "It's going really well. They're keeping me busy, but I still have plenty of time for family. Speaking of, Alex says hi. He would have been here, but he has Lisa today. Can you believe she's going to be a year old in two months?"

"Tell him I say hello as well. A year? I still remember when Julie was born - we had a bet going in the security offices, the closest one to your actual hour of birth won!" JoNs chuckled.

"I remember that cause Alex was off by a couple hours," she laughed, as she started playing with one of the breadsticks on the table. "Julie started crying when she found out she couldn't come see Aunty Lefty today. And poor Aidan started crying because she was crying."

The Caitian chuckled. "I did not mean to cause an uproar in your house Maria. Matter of fact," she reached down to grab a small shopping bag nestled beside her chair. "These are for Julie, Aidan and little Lisa. Caitian gifts - a necklace for Julie, a stuffed animal for little Lisa, and a remote control hover board model for Aiden." Left Ear grinned wickedly and said, "tell Aidan to aim for the good china," and then winked.

"Oooo...That's so sweet, M'Vess. They'll love them. Thank you so much." Maria took another drink of water, as she looked across the table to her friend. "So I told you what's been going on in the Zier household. How are things with you?"

She took a sip of her drink and then answered. "I have to say things are going well. The Yellowjacket is a good ship to serve on, and it keeps me busy. The brothers are all doing well with their assigments, and Vrrowl's medical practice is thriving.

"I hope you're keeping those young ensigns in line."

"Oh you know me. I've shot a couple of them out of the forward torpedo tubes, and eventually the others get the message. The captain always gets so annoyed at me when we need to put in more personnel requests."

Maria laughed, "You haven't changed a bit." She gave a small sigh. "I've missed you. I can hardly keep track of everyone else."

"I know that Corizon is of course an admiral, and Commander Laarell is still serving with him as well. But, it is hard to keep track of us all."

Maria nods in response. "How's your family?" She paused akwardly for a moment after that, realizing what she asked.

Left Ear became highly interested in her paws at that moment, resting in her lap.

"I'm sorry...I forgot." Maria frowned. "I know what you're going through."

The middle aged felinoid looked out across the bay. "Still no word on the Agincourt, or Kairi, or Mrrett...I feel so helpless."

Tracing the paterns of the tablecloth, the blonde haired doctor looked out to the bay as well. "I heard that the Capta...I mean Admiral Corizon was spearheading the investigation." She gave a little smirk, taking solice in that fact. "If anyone can find anything, I'm sure he will."

JoNs turned her attention back to Zier. "Maria, the 'Court followed whoever attacked the transport ships into some kind of wormhole...they could be anywhere in known time or space."

Maria sighed, still looking out at the bay. "I know, but you have to believe they are alright, no matter where they are. We can't give up." Her eyes then went to the sky. "You know...I miss it, being up there."

"I know you do. Sad thing is, it's times like these where we realize the dangers inherent of service. I hope they are both all right, taking care of themselves. My family gathered at my uncles home...we performed a Caitian ceremony of prayer...just hoping it would help..." Left Ear trailed off.

Her eyes finally fell back to the Caitians. She reached across the table, laying a hand on her soft paw. "I'm sure it will. We could all use a little prayer."

JoNs turned back to Zier. "I also keep thinking that I can't be there for Mrrett anymore. I was her sponser through the academy and a few of her training assignments. She's an officer, out on her own. I just hope she is alright."

Maria rested her chin on her other hand, thinking of when her niece Kairi entered the academy. She gave M'Vess' paw a gentle squeeze. "They've grown up on us. The only thing we can do is trust in their skills."
