I bought a hat today. I've never really had one. And I look so hot-intelligent with it. Far better than when I had a pair of glasses. You know what I'm talking about, all I need is a book to read in a cosy coffee shop.

Okay, I'll bite (cat humor! Ha!) - are we talking a baseball cap, fedora style, beret, Panama Jack type, jiff cap, cowboy hat, etc? Color? Felt or leather? Details man, details!

Nice choice Images. I call that type of retro style hat the "50's to early 60's classic", since it is a shade smaller then the fedoras of the 30's and 40's.

Yeah, with a new hat i've completed a strange mix of style. Rat Pack all the way baby. With a touch of Dylan Moran in "Black Books" and a sprinkling of Vince Noir in "The Mighty Boosh"

And how is this the most exciting convo on this thread?? You're getting lax guys!

I have a hat ... it's black, finely woven "straw" in the Audrey Hepburn, "Breakfast At Tiffany's" style. I wore it all summer in an attempt to keep as much sun from my face as possible. It did the job perfectly and with grace. Shame it was a bit too clumsy for the airplane or I would have brought it to Vegas. It's fabulous. A shame to have to put it away soon ;) I guess I need to find something just as wonderful for winter. Shopping!!

Mexican Dynamite Truck Explodes; 37 Die

By Associated Press

PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Mexico - A truck carrying explosives for the mining industry exploded after running into another vehicle in northern Mexico, killing at least 37 people, a federal police official said Monday.

The two cars collided Sunday evening on a highway in Coahuila state, near the town of Sacramento, Luis Horacio de Hoyos said.

Soldiers, police, emergency officials, nearby residents and reporters were on the scene when the vehicle suddenly caught fire, igniting the truck full of explosives.

Maximo Alberto Neri Lopez, a federal police official, said 37 people were killed and 150 were injured. He said the explosion left a 3-meter by 15-meter crater in the concrete.

De Hoyos said three newspaper reporters from the city of Monclova were among the dead.

This event is definitely a freak tragedy, and I am not speaking ill of the dead.

This article will no doubt be updated as details pour in. However, the one section brings up some questions - "Soldiers, police, emergency officials, nearby residents and reporters were on the scene when the vehicle suddenly caught fire, igniting the truck full of explosives." - Uh, wouldn't it have been a good idea to form a perimeter around the truck, and get everyone the hell away from the scene, in case the dyno blew? I'm sure there was a few moments to act when the initial fire on the vehicle started as well.

In answer...Abosoutely...YES, Especially when in the proximity/nearby...a Cordon/evac area is necessitated.

That being said...There really does exist in this world of instaneous communication certain elements (Countries/Regions/protocols) that DO NOT Either accept/ Enforce/or participate in the known protocols set forth "Internationally" as it relates to the transport/placarding, And or handling (safe) of potentially hazardous materials.

All I can say is pray for the ones departed, And hopefully set an example for the "rest" of either the local, or regionial controlling bodies to get with the program laid forth by the majority of the "Civilised world"...and enforce those doctrines...thay really do help save lives.

Is that not the most important thing?? :)

Unfortunately, emergency crew headspace and timing issues happen even here. Back in the mid to late 90's, there was a fire at Knapp Chemicals in Lodi, NJ. One of the responding fire departments, Garfield NJ, positioned their brandy new, hadn't even had a wet-down piece of apparatus, a pumper/rescue truck if I remember correctly, right next to a rather large propane tank. That no one in command of the scene thought to detail a crew to hose down to keep cool. Tank got hot and, as propane under pressure and high temperature is want to do, it exploded and completely and utterly obliterated the previously mentioned quarter-million dollar piece of equipment.

I got a big Straw Sombrero that I won at six flags one year. I took it to a music festival with me and got a bunch of autographs on it. Now Im scared to take it anywhere! I bought a hat a few weeks ago from my favorite band. It looks like one of those military camo hats though its black. I really like it!

Anywho thats my 2 cents!

Okay, something different. The high schoolers in the next town over from me are officially all idiots. The high school there is big, very big. Pretty much a campus. And a couple days ago it went up in a full fledged riot. It started out with a fight, then a few more started, and finally everyone was beating everyone else up. The police have arrested around 10 students so far (and a couple more after a few small fights broke out a day later).

What was the cause of this, you ask? It all started with two students arguing over a donut.

They totally need a life.

Random: I let loose with my deep nerdly zombie loving self and went to see "Resident Evil Extinction". It was cool. Blatant ending leaving the franchise open for movie number four though.

Mmm, donut.

Still no excuse to start a full-fledged riot. I can understand race, politics, etc., as a reason to riot, not that I condone that most violent form of Freedom of Expression. But a donut?

Just try and take the doughnuts off the hood and see if there isn't a riot  .

Does the expression escorted to the nearest Air lock bring anything to mind?

Sorry but every time I hear looney, I associate it with toons.

Well I suppose that is one way to keep spirits up in a world of economic crunch....
