Okay I think Avatar paid itself off now.

-precip

Pretty movie, thin plot. I enjoyed, but wouldn't recommend Avatar to folks who can't handle an action/adventure film that doesn't have more then one level of plot.

Always a pleasure to spot Sigourney Weaver in a film, and any voice over work by C.C.H. Pounder is awesome.

I want one of those Banshee Sky Lizards, and I'll also take one of the Marine Fighter Copters. Kickazz. ^_^

The story was extremely weak, and in my opinion got even weaker the more you thought about it. But it was very, very pretty. (Though, I will add, not as world-altering as it was advertised, either). I do give them a lot of credit for creating a very well-thought-out and internally cohesive world visually, even if they weren't able to transfer that into the writing.

How spiffy: two movies with the specific intent of making me despise my own existence, wrapped up into a third with pretty SciFi scenery.

Forgive me if I don't applaud.

You'll be fine as long as you never expose yourself to the Wing Commander film.

Too many plot holes. . .such as human kind forgetting the concept of horizontal drilling, which is meant to extract what you need without damaging (or at least inflicting minimal damage to) the surface. Not to mention the floating mountains were made of the stuff.

All in all, its typical James Cameron. Take a weak story, make it visually stunning, throw in his own personal indictment of some aspect of society (his personal favorites are U.S culture, anything military, or humanity as a whole) and you've got yourself a hit movie! What makes Avatar is crowning achievement is that he manages to throw all three under the bus. The military is portrayed as blood thirsty war-mongers. Whatever company that Giovanni Ribisi works for is his idea of a greedy multinational corporation bent on doing whatever it takes to gain a profit. And there is an obvious "cowboys v indians" dynamic between the Na'vi and the humans, with the Na'vi being portrayed as the peaceful earth loving natives, against the ruthless (almost Manifest Destiny driven) humans.

I still liked it.

Avatar is CBP: Cameron Blatant Preachy. I still liked it as well.

FYI. . .Cops is filmed on location with the men and women of law enforcement. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty. . .in a court of law.

The Zeppelin Tube, the amplifier of unlimited power. A power so great, it can only be used for good... or evil.

I choose...evil...

Singing...

I'm the fear that keeps you awake

I'm the shadows on the wall

I'm the monsters they become

I'm the nightmare in your skull

I'm a dagger in your back

An extra turn upon the rack

I'm the quivering of your heart

A stabbing pain, a sudden start.

And it's so easy when you're evil

This is the life, you see

The Devil tips his hat to me

I do it all because I'm evil

And I do it all for free...

So I'm re-watching the Spielberg movie, "The Terminal." There is a female customs agent at JFK airport and the Tom Hanks character is finding out personal information about her for someone who is secretly in love with her. Well, it turns out that what she loves to do is go to Conventions... Star Trek conventions, where she dresses up. And the actress who plays the part is Zoe Soldana! I guess she really got her wish, huh?

I was going over my renter's policy and found these two paragraphs from my insurer most...amusing.

CAUSES OF LOSS NOT COVERED

We do not insure for loss caused directly or indirectly by any o f the following.

Such loss is excluded regardless o f any other cause or event contributing

concurrently or in any sequence to the loss:

1. War.

Undeclared war.

Civil war.

Insurrection.

Rebellion.

Revolution.

Warlike act by a military force or military personnel.

Destruction, seizure or use for a military purpose.

Nor is any consequence of these covered.

Discharge of a nuclear weapon will be deemed a warlike act, even if accidental.
(WTF? When was the last time someone accidentally set off a nuke????)

2. Nuclear reaction, radiation or radioactive contamination. All whether controlled

or uncontrolled, however caused.

Nor is any consequence o f these covered. Loss caused by these shall not be

considered loss caused by fire, explosion, or smoke.
But we do cover direct

loss by fire resulting from nuclear reaction, nuclear radiation, or radioactive

contamination.
(Again...WTF? Lord, I hope I'm never home if
this
were to happen)

Judging by that, you either decided to rent in North Korea, Iran, or Ruby Ridge.

Eyes tend to be rather large in anime. This is because they contain several gallons of water, which may be instantaneously released at high pressure through large tear ducts. The actual volume of water contained in the eyes is unknown, as there is no evidence to suggest that these reservoirs are actually capable of running out. The reason water tends to collect in the eyes is because anime characters only have one large sweat gland, which is located at the back of the head.

Which is why Soun Tendo, from Ranma 1/2, is known in fanfiction "Tendo Waterworks". Feel free to google for reference images.

Random quote for the day:

Action Park was a true rite of passage for any New Jerseyan of my generation. When I get to talking about it with other Jerseyans, we share stories as if we are veterans who served in combat together. I suspect that many of us may have come closest to death on some of those rides up in Vernon Valley. I consider it a true shame that future generations will never know the terror of proving their grit at New Jersey's most dangerous amusement park

The current administration axed the Constellation Program. Although extremely ambitious..it gave us a direction to where we were heading. Time tables most likely would not of been met. But I ponder how long it will take for NASA to develop another manned spaceflight program after so much work had been done on Aries/Orion/Constellation.

I guess we will be renting seats on Russian Space Capsules for quite some time since the shuttle retires this year.

Before NASA goes any further, they should ask themselves this:

"Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?"

Then, and only then, will they find the answer.
