god I could almost see this in the Caption contest...I mean you've got Troi in the background with this expression like "Good lord what is wrong with that guy?" and then Data's looking up at him like "this dude's nuts get him the **** away from me!" And Riker's just turned away too disgusted to watch anymore...good stuff, :(

IDW publishing (the company currently producing Trek comics), is planning a June '08 launch of a four issue Original Trek comic series, based in the Mirror Universe. The issues will deal with Kirk taking power from Captain Pike, as well as expanding the non-canon Mirror backstory on Uhuru, McCoy, and Scotty, and how they advanced their own positions.

So ... let me get this straight ... not only do I have some MU comics to look forward to (Slightly. Obsessed. With Mirror Universe.), but at least one of them will focus on my favorite, McCoy?

Big w00t! w00t!

Slightly Kitten? That's like saying the Grand Canyon's a small hole in the ground, or Iraq has some sand.

Perhaps I need therapy? "Hi, my name is Kansas, and I Mirror."

IDW is also planning a couple more TOS based comics to be released, and they currently have a "New Frontier" stint running, which is kind of cool for the Calhoun and company fans out there.

When I become Supreme High Ruler of the Universe, my first act will be to outlaw French tests involving the use of the conditional. ;)

::grins:: Hallelujah for internet translators and not having a keyboard that can do accents.

"No, I like French, but I would like to destory the conditional (tense)." ;)

I will relay the ultimate language smack down story. ;-)

In college, I really wanted to continue speaking/learning Spanish. However, after taking the first two required semesters, my professor pulled me aside and told me in a very nice manner something to this effect - "Don't continue on with the language course. It's just not happening - branch off and take the Spanish culture cluster (basically history classes) courses."

My Translation: You ain't getting it mi amiga. Drop the full on language and opt for the history classes. ;-)

We had a magnitude 5.2 earthquake here yesterday, which, although extremely minor, is rare for this area. Which has sent everyone into an unnecessary frenzy. So the local news people interview a local expert, who I work with, and I happened to be there at the time.

Their first question was if the recent rain and flooding had anything to do with it. I was off camera, trying my hardest not to laugh, while he was struggling to keep his face straight on camera. Then the other local news station did a segment on earthquake preparedness, and their advice was to leave the building you are in and head straight for an open area.

Makes me wonder what will happen if we ever get a major earthquake.

I was watching BSG the other night, and the Cylons (bad guys) had a meeting in a room. The room had a number 1701D. Those guys at BSG just wont stop propping Star Trek.

5.2 Earthquake Eh? I read something about the type of ground in that part of the country allows for the P and S waves to travel farther than they would in a typical California Quake of similar magnitude. Perhaps that's why Chicago was referenced in media reports.

Down here in SoCal we are so overdue for a 5+ Earthquake its amazing.

Stocking up on your Nevada oceanfront property, Precip?

Anyway, I remember sleeping in a tent when the Ramapo fault gave off a 4. something tremor twenty-some years ago. Not something you expect to experience in NJ

Spotted that as well! Didn't pick up on the kudo at first when Cally read the handwritten note, but the white 1701D decals on the meeting room door were bold and loud. Loved it.

Oh, and Doctor Cottle? McCoy's long lost cousin, totally. ;-)

There was also a scene in the miniseries that looked like it was taken out of Firefly / Serenity. It even had the ship taking off in a background shot.

Sci-fi is filled with these things. The Millenium Falcon somehow made it into the Borg attack in First Contact. E.T.'s race had Senators in The Phantom Menace.

If? You mean when, right? When I first heard, I thought it might've been a precursor quake from the New Madrid fault zone. Now that scares the hell out of me and I don't even live there. When that goes, say goodbye to Memphis.

From what I recall from Earthquake texts, the Mississippi River reversed directions briefly when the New Madrid Fault had it's last big rupture. I do certianly hope the good citizens of Memphis and other nearby cities build their buildings with Earthquakes in mind.

The New Madrid quake was an extremely rare tripple quake, three 8+ quakes in a period of a bit more than a month...tho I am not perfectly sure about the time period. In 1812 there wasn't much of a population in that area. Records from the era tell of the last major quake ringing church bells in Boston and cracking sidewalks in Washington DC. Now Memphis and St. Louis are easily within the major damage area of a quake of similar size, while Nashville and Louisville would also suffer. Something to also consider is the major transportation conduits runing across the Mississippi, roads, railways, pipelines. The structural and economic damage to the US may be unrecoverable.

::grin:: Always happy to scare people with the evil little facts that rattle around in my head.

Actually, interestingly enough, this earthquake wasn't part of the New Madrid fault zone.

The 5.2? No...that was from another zone I didn't know existed till this one went off. But the two areas are pretty darn close together.
