Try spending most of the day out on a missile site in -73 wind chills in a diesel crew cab, while maintenance is down below in +70 temps. I think we got the truck up to 5 or 10 below running the front heater, rear heater, putting it in gear and setting the parking brake, and placing an M-16 on the gas pedal

Is that how you shot your eye out?

Nah, it was with a Red Ryder BB gun, with the compass in the stock. On my own damn time

Well, just out of curiosity, has anyone ever been bobsledding? Me and a few people from work are going late this week when we get back to Calgary, wondering what to expect.

So for NASA's 50th anaversary they are playing beatles songs directed out into the universe. When Paul Mcartney was told he was quoted as having said "send my love to the aliens"

What if lightsabers are not really made of light at all? What if what looks like an energy beam is really a metal filament wrapped in a coil that extends outward when it becomes superheated? That would explain both the glowing appearance and the blade coming to a fixed point. The "light" in lightsaber might have a double meaning in that it might also mean something that is lighter than a normal metal saber.

I just went and looked up how lightsabers are supposed to work to confirm my knowledge of the theory before coming here to post a rebuttal to the above argument. And then I said, "Wait a second. This is ridiculous. Go do your homework." So I posted this instead.

I've read those same articles. However, you have to remember that they are at best based on non-canon sources. The only true canon sources we have are the 6 movies and perhaps related media (The Clone Wars cartoons, the Star Wars Holiday Special, and maybe the Droids and Ewoks movies / serieses) that Lucas had a direct hand in. Anything else is speculation. In Star Wars canon Lucas never addresses how lightsabers are made.

Okay. On that note....let's talk about Battlestar Galactica!

I highly recommend the Battlestar Galactica: Razor extended and unrated DVD - good solid sci fi entertainment, you don't have to be a huge fan of the show to understand and enjoy it. I spotted it in the store, thought it looked pretty interesting and don't regret the purchase.

Why does the 7-Eleven up the street from me carry razors and blades but not shaving cream?

With BBQ sauce and some bloodwine to wash it down.

I was thinking Alderaanian Ale, or perhaps Corellian Whiskey. As for the sauce, North Carolina, Memphis, or Kansas City-style?
