who cares

We do! This is why its a random topic. Here's my current contribution to the random topic: okay, I caved today and succumbed to the Halo 3 hype and bought a copy of the game.

1.) The single player seems pretty solid, granted I'm only about two hours into it.

2.) I jumped online for some Multiplayer action and proceeded to get schooled beyond six ways from Sunday. So. Out of. Practice. But, I had fun!

I still say Halo is overrated; many other games get overlooked and overshadowed because of this title, but so far it is solid Sci Fi action, and worth the purchase alone for the MP.

Three out of five starts. ;-)

Talk about taking your fanboy (otaku)-ness to the extreme on Wikipedia:

Japanese workers in Wikipedia row

Japan's Agriculture Ministry has reprimanded six civil servants who spent hours at work editing articles on Wikipedia - mainly about robots.

One man was found to have made 260 entries to articles about Gundam, a popular animated series featuring giant robotic fighting machines.

Five more bureaucrats wrote about Japanese movies, mistakes on billboards and local politics, officials said.

According to the ministry, the six had made 408 entries at work since 2003.

The group, whose activities were discovered by an internal probe, received verbal reprimands, officials said.

Editing Wikipedia has now been banned at the ministry.

"The Agriculture Ministry is not in charge of Gundam," ministry official Tsutomu Shimomura told the Associated Press news agency.

Wikipedia is an online encyclopaedia that anyone can add to.

A new website has now made it possible to track those who edit the site.

In recent months it has emerged that employees of organisations including the CIA, the BBC and the Office of the Australian Prime Minister have all been adding to articles on a variety of subjects from work computers.

Dog Saves Family From Fire Blamed on Cat

By Associated Press

Wed Oct 10, 10:00 PM

GREENVILLE, Maine - Thumper, a black Labrador retriever, is getting credit for saving a Greenville man when a fire swept through his home.

Roland Cote said his wife and their 7-year-old grandson were away when the blaze started early Sunday in a converted two-story garage. He said Thumper grabbed him by the arm to wake him, leaving just enough time for him to dial 911 before fleeing the fast-moving fire.

While the dog is the hero, a cat is the bad guy in this story.

Cote said the fire marshal investigator believes the blaze was started when Princess, the family cat, tipped over a kerosene lantern. Cote says he and his pets escaped safely, but he says Princess did get her tail singed by the flames.

Information from: Bangor Daily News

Princess JoNs has always been that one cousin the family wasn't too sure about....

It's official. I'm dressing up as one of the Blues Brothers for Halloween. It's kind of a spur of the moment thing, since I decided on it tonight, and I'm going to a costume party tomorrow.

I'll save the bologna costume for next year.

Cool! I knew someone who dressed up as a bag of jelly beans for one Halloween. Clear plastic bag with head and arm holes, balloons in the bag. Creative!

So, it looks like Paramount is going to remake the classic Original Series into Star Trek XI by casting new actors for the traditional roles.

:P

Pure Genius. Even Captain Riker on the Titan would be better than this! You know what happens when Hollywood tries to remake classics.

This was already discussed a bit here - http://www.stsf.net/forums/index.php?showt...Star+Trek+movie and I know there is another topic floating around on the boards as well.

You weren't too happy then either Prof:

(Professor Galen @ Jul 27 2007, 08:39 PM) *

I'm afraid Star Trek has lost its soul.

And as I stated in the original topic:

The same thing was said (in some form) when The Next Generation came on the scene in magazine articles and interviews from that time, etc. (A new captain and crew? It wont be Star Trek, etc) Now look at it - it is the beloved "first" spin off.

I'll go and check out the 2008 film.

Besides, maybe I am not overly concerned because Trek has been remade already - all through these forty years with the movies and series spin offs. The using of a new cast for the original series version is merely one more creativity angle to manipulate. Even if they made a new Trek movie set in the TNG/DS9/VOY time frame with an entirely new cast, there would be complaints that it did not involve the DS9 cast, or the VOY cast, etc - I know there has been some barking about these shows never getting screen time.

On the flip side? While I am open to the new Trek film, I also hope it does not go the way of my opinion toward the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy - as stand alone films, sure, they can be fun science fiction. But, the three new films do absolutely no justice to their Original Trilogy forebears. Another classic (combination) remake that I love is the Alien vs. Predator film. This film surprised me, I enjoyed it.

It IS possible to remake a classic - how well it does or is received will always subject to audience interpretations, and you can never fully satisfy all opinions or desires...Then again, maybe I just wanna see bright red, blue and gold/green velour on the big screen! Boo yah! :-D

My computer crashed over a week ago. It took several trips to the repair shop to get it repaired. I had to replace an 80GB hard drive with a 300 GB one - and I was nowhere close to even using 80GB before. When they reinstalled the operating system they also put on some internet security program I had never heard of before - and it worked, too. It wouldn't let me get online at all. Finally I figured out what it was doing and uninstaled it. I had about 100 critical updates to download and install. Even with a high-speed connection it took all night. The last 10 or so I had to install one at a time. Then I had some problems reactivating my Norton stuff. I finally got on line and fully protected an hour ago.

The good news is before my computer wasn't upgradeable to Vista and now it is because of the additional hard drive space. It isn't worth it however since the computer itself is about 5 years old.

That's why I keep trying to tell you DA, that Schoenberg was completely validated in stating that that the abandonment of the tonal system and the adopting of the equal importance of 12 tones was a NECESSARY move for music to take. Whether auditory roughness exists for dissonance or not (which it is proven to), the objective perspective on sound is still of vital importance.
