Goodbye...

Finn Halek strode down the corridor, arriving at Nick Lepage’s temporary quarters on the Lewis. He raised his hand to the com panel, then lowered it again. The same routine he’d just done at Dr Pavilion’s quarters. Was it cowardice? No, he thought. Just the avoidance of either a long goodbye or a good talking to persuade him to leave with them. He pulled the envelope from the small holdall and slipped it under Lepage’s door.

Turning on his heel he walked back down the corridor towards sickbay. The destruction of the Aegis had made him think a lot about things recently. The ‘sitting duck’ of being on a station. His career was in Starfleet medical, of that he had no doubt, but perhaps it was a ship he would now feel safer on than a hanging target in space.

The offer to transfer to the USS Grampian had come in a day earlier, although Finn had been in two minds about taking it. He’d miss everyone, he knew. Still, that was part of who he was. He hoped one day he’d be able to settle down, then shrugged, grinning. Perhaps it was better this way.

He entered the turbolift, his voice echoing through the corridor behind him…
