So much for my hopes of going this year as well. I have it on good word that my first duty station is in lovely.....Germany. :P Quite the trip to get there, and I probably won't be able to get leave for a Trek convention.

Hey, you could be sent to the garden spot of Ceti Alpha Six...er, the US Army- Beautiful downtown Baghdad. Where just getting to the airport is an adventure. Of course Hoehenfels doubles for a "garden spot". And you'll have plenty of opportunities to find out when you get there. Unless of course, you're assigned to a unit that's returning Stateside anytime soon.

Youch! Good point...

But soliders in my MOS usually don't get deployed to war right away...especially in Iraq. We can't really do our job that well in the field! :P It can happen, and it might happen, but most of us, if we get sent, end up driving drucks.

Taking the plunge! Made reservations for 8th through 12th. There are still some special rate rooms left, in case you're wondering. God willing we'll be there.

Ok. I got the Reservation ready.. when do you think they will have the "normal" fan reservations up for the Con?

Now to choose if I'll fly in or Drive it from Denver again.. will we need cars in vegas this time?

Hot dog, it's gonna be a party this year! (I'm not getting a car - I'm doing tram, cabs, and hitched rides from nerds).

Oooh, goody, more people to help staff the STSF table!

They have just announced a new package that is half the price of the Gold one (but that means it is still $400+, so I would wait).

Car, huh? We can always use more rides!

Does this mean that I have to find my uniform top and dust it off?

I also have to clean my car for possible passengers... man this trip is sounding like a lot of work..

No, I don't plan on asking anyone to wear a Trek uniform, you'll have enough of those walking the convention floor. However, I am toying with the idea of STSF logo shirts and if I get serious about it, I will ask for definite commitments of staffing time.

Costumes... lol. I am SO looking forward to the ultimate freak show! ::just picked up a 2G card for camera::

Yeah, costumes at the table wouldn't make us stand out much. And I don't think there's too much wrong with promoting a degree of normality about us... I mean... You *can* be a Star Trek nerd AND have a normal life. Okay, even if that's a lie, it's a legitimate fantasy that I think would be a good selling point, lol. Logo shirts sound cool. Or even cheaper, we could all agree on like black t-shirts and we could have really cool sticker-tags with the logo, or something like that.

Please do make them polo shirts. I so do NOT wear Tees well.

Uh oh, the Admirals planning already... :-)

Hey, if someone enjoys dressing up, I say more power to 'em, but anyone ever notice the people in costumes are the ones that always seem to make it on the six o clock news, further perpetuating the myth that *all* of us wear costumes?

Yes! I am the same way Commander . Even woman's tees are hit or miss with me. And I'd also like to know why all the Trek sweatshirts always seem to be a mans size medium to XXL.

I've booked a Hilton room, and now I am waiting for more con package options. If all goes well, this will be my first *Really Big* convention, and Vegas to boot!

If I go (which is looking better all the time) I am not sure if I am going to stay at the Hilton or not. I am venturing a guess I can find cheaper accommodations elsewhere on the strip (as long as it's on the tram thingy you're in good shape). :D

Oh yeah, there's much cheaper digs, and the tram is dirt easy. Just... make sure you look at a tram map first, lol. (I probably won't stay at the Hilton either - I'll know more after I make some phone calls this week).

Oh, and let's make sure we add the official STSF Thong option to the list of booth attire items we can purchase! Oh, and doggy t's. Candy wears a size small. She looks good in anything. :D

Just made my hotel reservations, although I won't look for flights until later (of course some of you know that's a lie). I usually rent a car when I'm Vegas. Someone has to make a Target/Wal-Mart run ;-) Plus there is always that late night, "wanna drive over to the Rio?" option. I think I need a new Moose shirt. :D

Wow, I'd love to go this year. Sadly, I won't have any "shore leave" from my current job until next year. But I am planning to go with my own Captain to the ST Experience in the summer of '08! I'm looking forward to it, maybe I'll plan it around the next Shore Leave event!

Ah, yes, the Rio! I know that place well! I spent about a week there last summer for an accounting conference. Home of the Penn & Teller show, Tony & Tina's Wedding, Masquerade Show in the Sky, and of course VooDoo Lounge - a bar on the roof of the hotel, 50 floors up. Plus they have showgirls that dance on tables while you are gambling and a new bar in the main lobby called the iBar where attractive cocktail waitresses wearing about as much cotton as you would find in an asprin bottle dance on stage when they are not making drinks. The drinks are expensive, $8-$12 each, but you can buy an open bar pass and drink all night for $40.

Guess where I am staying.
