Telepathic Overload

Telepathic Overload

Mona sat in her office staring at the small plant on her desk thinking. She had not liked the turn of events that had take place in the ready room. Whether the rest of the command staff realized it or not they were questioning her loyalties. The ship and its crew where her first priority and that would never change. She had tried to talk to Col Harper about it but all that was addressed was that they were questioning her long exposure to the telepathic being. Mona sighed as she continued to stare at the plant; “I am trained for long exposure to telepaths for gods sakes I spent most of my childhood in a hospital full of them.” She could understand the Col fears but when it came right down to it Mona felt they were unwarranted. She began to think of the past.

“My Darling you need to wake up” a voice echoed through the silent hall of the hospital. Mona opened her eyes and looked around. She stared at the women who called herself Minerva. “What is going on am I gonna have to do another test?” Mona said sleepily. The older women gave a gentle smile and nodded. “Yes the doctors have implanted a small device into your brain to help stimulate different areas that will help you remember and get better. I am going to be here to work with you, ok. Do you understand?” Mona smiled as she tried to comprehend what the older woman had said to her. It had only been recently she had come out of the coma and was still having problems remembering and functioning normally. The doctors had decided that they would use the recovery capabilities of her paracortex to help the rest of her mind. Minerva smiles and said, “Close your eyes and try to focus on me. I am going to help you search your mind to slowly see if we can find any memories, alright?” Mona nodded and closed her eyes. As she tried to regulate her breathing and focus she began to hear her grandmothers voice in her head. “Can you hear me my darling?” Mona tried to answer in her mind but could not manage. She heard the calm voice again “It is alright. Let us try and see if we can find any memories.” Mona felt an odd sensation as Minerva tried to sort through a jumbled mind. Suddenly the young girl screamed as a wave of thoughts and emotions came pouring into her mind. Mona fell on the ground crying, “Make it stop!” Minerva looked frantically at a nearby doctor. He began to look over the scans trying to find something and suddenly he looked up “I think the chip is overloading” The older women gathered Mona up in her arms and began to stoke her forehead, “well you need to make is stop doctor” The young doctor continued to work trying to counteract the effects of the chip. Min closed her eyes and tried to find her young granddaughter, she reached out and tried to put up mental shields around the frightened girls mind. “I am here we will work this out together. Be strong my darling.”

Mona rubbed her forehead remembering the day that silly little chip had forever been seared into her brain. At that point her mind had been like a spaceport receiving any mental thought from anyone within miles of her. She smirked “If I can handle mental overload from and entire hospital I think I can handle being exposed to 1 energy being for a while.” She thought of the Col again and began to laugh to herself. Looking at the plant again she gave it another spray of the water she said, “Admit nothing, deny everything, make counter accusations. Those marine are always suspicious, so I suppose it’s not just me.”
