This Can't Be Good

::Sitting stiffly in his Command Chair, after eating a cookie and getting a cinnamon injection, A9 muses on his situation::

{I can fight or talk my way out of any trouble ... any trouble but something like this. We caught a plague, a wildly spreadable and deadly disease. The Exeter crew, the people we went to Tanemo-9 to save, are almost all dead from it. Then we got it from them and between our two groups, we passed it along to the staff at Starbase 36. It would have gotten us all if it weren't for Mary's cookies. Cookies!! Who would have thought of that??!}

{I knew I was no good, trying to get in the way and "direct" events down in Sickbay or on the Station, so I just stayed on the Bridge. My symptoms started a bit later than a lot of the crew and I had to continue to show my "strength" for them. I'm glad I have the Exoskeleton suit with the grav adjusters. I was able to incrementally increase the grav pull on my body and it was like having an all-over body scratch. It kept me from dancing around like crazy and it kept me from looking too diseased, at first. There was a nation on old Earth that had red uniforms for their military and one senior commander was quoted as saying that it helped with morale to hide any wounds that the officer in the field might get, it helped to keep the troops fighting. Maybe my exo helped everyone try to keep it together and work toward the cure - one can hope.}

{The real problem, though, is my left hand. It started with the standard set of symptoms pretty early and I tried to use my TK to keep the itching down. Maybe that caused some acceleration in the progress, I don't know. All I *DO* know is that I lost all sense of feeling and movement in that hand an hour ago and the skin does not look "good." Margaux Roget noticed me cradling it and commented that it looked like gangrene. I hope she's not right, but I also know that something isn't right about that hand. It no longer seems to be getting any worse, but I'm not sure if it could get any worse and still be attached to my arm - I guess that's something, though.}

{So, now I sit here, waiting to be seen by the Medical staff when the severe cases are dealt with and trying not to bump my hand into anything, just in case. So much for a show of strength and a morale booster if I end up losing my hand. Calm, soothing thoughts, I just have to remind myself that none of my crew has died from this - and that's a good thing... Right?}
