Remember When?

Not so sad. I grew up watching watching all three of those, and based on your profile info, I'm considerably younger than you are. :D

I was just out Christmas shopping today and saw something that brought back good memories.

Three TV Disney cartoons: Ducktales, Talespin, and Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers!

I know. Its so sad. =0]

Talespin was the best. An alternate 1930's type of world with Disney characters, planes, and pirates. Wait...alternate '30's...planes...pirates. That could explain why I think the Crimson Skies video game is cool now. Whats that they say? Everything repeats itself?

Really? I didnt think so. I thought you told me your age once. I just turned 32. Is that considerably older? =0]

Those Disney cartoons were being made when the good ones were still on. When they actually drew cartoons still. Sometimes, I just dont enjoy the computer generated nearly as much. Well, Im old fashioned, too. Old habits, hobbies, and pass-times die slow.

But the slinky lives on forever. (Metal old ones. Not the cheap plastic rip-offs.)

Suprised no one mentioned Oregon Trail for an older PC game aside from Carmen Sandiego. I always had my Oxen die and got stuck.

I loved that game. I don't think I ever succeeded, but I liked it.

Heh. Reminds me of a line from Ghostbusters II when discussing childhood toys, Egon says, "We had part of a Slinky. But I straightened it." :P

::giggles::

Kind of like taking the stickers off of the rubik's cube.

The trick with it was all about the draft animals. Oxen were best, though in the later editions everything was about horses and mules.

I loved all of those -- also liked the other "Trail" games when those ones were released.

Oh, we just took our rubik's cubes apart. =0]

Or glued them.

Meh my attention was lost on the sequels. That was around the time the original NES had taken over as my electronic gaming platform of choice.

Hold A, press start.

OK, more memories here. Every night, they are showing a new Christmas Special. My favorites are the stop-action childrens specials. You know, Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer, Frosty the Snowman (Actually, that one is a cartoon), and the Abominable Snowman episodes.

Has anyone seen "Polar Express" yet? Isnt it neat?

A really cool place I found today: Retrojunk

It shows the old tv show openings on a video player. I was playing the "Inspector Gadget" cartoon series opener over and over. =0]

WOW....I didn't even remember half of the toys I had as a kid until I looked in here. :P

Or the TV shows...

Hearing you guys say that stuff is old is kinda funny because I'm only nineteen and I knew what a LOT of it was.

Sorry but when someone says 80's cartoons I think Transformers, Tigersharks, Thundercats, Silverhawks, He-Man, She-Ra, Snorks, Smurfs, Rainbow Brite (God I hated that show.), Care Bears. /The original TMNT were late more toward the 90's.

And sorry.... Power Rangers always in some way shape or form reminded me of watching a recycled & modified Voltron episode.

Although I do love the 90's for Ren & Stimpy. (Reference: "It's Log!")

Bonus points to those who remember the cartoons in bold.

They did go into the nineties... but they originated in the 80's. :D

I remember watching Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes, and Disney cartoons that were long before my time at that point back then. Some things are that good that they have staying power. And other things... well some people don't know the meaning of: "If it's not broke don't fix it."

I.E. Disco is back. And if so... the person who is responsible for it should go into witness protection. I know a lot of people who are ticked about the 70's revival as it stands already. Can't say I care for it that much either, so I understand.

But then again kids who are 10 now will say they remember the turtles and everything else thanks to Cartoon Network (A blessing for saving Family Guy.) and generational recycleage (Not good, see disco reference.) as I like to call it. But the point I guess is that to enjoy and appreciate your younger years. They only happen once. Believe me, I'd trade those days for my current responsbilities and bills anyday.

Unrelated Nostalgia:

Snap bracelets. Unique torture devices or entertainment for those with ADD/ADHD or just a plain evil streak.

You decide.

Snap bracelets.

I was just thinking of those today. I guess GMTA =0]

I must admit, I had one, too. But, after you slap it on, then what? Needless to say, they didnt last long. =0]

Then what... I'd wait until unsuspecting individuals weren't paying attention and then snap it on their wrist.

Made them jump a foot in the air.

Silverhawks focused on a group of space crimefighters that were specially outfitted in well, skins of metal. I remember Steelwill, Steelheart (a brother and sister team), Bluegrass (the pilot), Kidd (a kid who whistled rather then spoke). The other characters I am a bit fuzzy on. They fought a crimelord baddie and his minions in the cosmos. Actually, Silverhawks is a bit of a takeoff on Thundercats (to me at least). The main bad guy had a transformation to make himself stronger similar to the TCat's Mummra.

Tigersharks. Did that focus on four brothers who were changed into a type of wereshark by an experiment performed by their father (think TMNT but with Sharks)? I may be thinking of a completely different show and title.

Power Rangers - Yep! I totally get the Voltron reference!

The "oldies" - I think I laugh more now at the Looney Tunes then I did as a kid, and I know I didnt get all the jokes when I was younger. Hysterical, and the staying power is the best.

Snap bracelets - unique torture device. :P

They were humans doing research on a planet that was mostly covered by water, and I'm not exactly sure where the fish tank that mutated them into their fishie forms/restored them to their human forms, came from. It wasn't all brothers there were others. It was more like a rip off of Thundercats. Geek points to you Kansas... you remembered some of it.

As for the torture device: Yeah I had a few of those bracelets and would randomly wait until people weren't paying attention. I always enjoyed the pie-eyed look I'd get after they figured out that I didn't slap them with a ruler. :P
