Remember When?

Ah, the 80's, when SNL was at its best! =0]

"You look Mah-velous!"

"Isnt that special?" Church Lady

"Im Gumby, damn it!" - Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy WAS good, but it was in the late 70's that SNL was truly at its best with Chevy Chase and John Belushi (Chevy interviewing Richard Pryor for a job; John as Samurai... anything) along with the ever amazing Dan Akroyd (Bass-O-Matic), Gilda Radner (Emily Latella), Lorraine Newman and Jane Curtin (the Coneheads!) and even Garrett Morris (Reuben Hurricane Carter for American Express and the headmaster for the NY School for the Hard Of Hearing)

I love the Gilda clips! And don't forget the Blues Brothers!

And just for fun:

This came from a Facebook thingy

You're a 90's kid if:

You've ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE!"

You can sing the rap to "The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air"

You remember when Kurt Cobain, Tu Pac, River Phoenix, and Selena died.

You know that "WOAH" comes from Joey from "Blossom" and that "How Rude!" comes from Stephanie from "Full House"

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early

on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.

You remember reading "Goosebumps"

You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, wax off"

You have pondered why Smurfette was the only female smurf.

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.

You danced to "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, Females: had a new motto, Males: got a whole lot gay-er. (so tell me what you want, what you really really want.)

You remember the craze, then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books.

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence...Not...

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? was both a game and a TV game show.

Captain Planet.

You knew that Kimberly, the pink ranger, and Tommy, the green Ranger were meant to be together.

When playing power rangers with friends you fought over who got to be who...and still all ended up being Tommy.

You remember when Super Nintendo's became popular.

You remember watching home alone 1, 2 , and 3........and tried to pull the pranks on "intruders"

"I've fallen and I can't get up"

You remember going to the skating rink before there were inline skates

Two words... Trapper Keeper.

You never got injured on a Slip 'n' Slide

You wore socks over leggings scrunched down

"Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack, all dressed in black, black, black, with silver buttons, buttons, buttons, all down her back, back, back" SHE ASKED HER MOTHER MOTHER MOTHER FOR FIFTY CENTS CENTS CENTS TO SEE THE ELEPHANTS PHANTS PHANTS JUMP OVER THE FENCE THE FENCE THE FENCE

he jumped so high high high he touched the sky sky sky and he didn't come back back back til the forth of july ly ly he jumped so low ow ow he stubbed his toe toe toe and thats the end end end of the elephants show show show

You remember boom boxes vs. cd players

You remember New Kids on The Block when they were cool

You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By The Bell"

You played and/or collected "Pogs"

You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet or Nano and brought it everywhere

You watched the original Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Ninja Turtles

NANCY DREW AND THE HARDY BOYS WERE THE BEST MYSTERY BOOKS

Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff!

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.

You remember when the new Beanie Babies were always sold out.

You used to wear those stick on earings, not only on your ears, but at the corners of your eyes.

You remember a time before the WB.

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

You know the Macarena by heart.

"Talk to the hand" ... enough said

You thought Brain would finally take over the world

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"

You remember when everyone went slinky crazy.

You remember when razor scooters were cool.

Now I feel old... I can definitely remember one or two of those but I was already too old for most of what you mentioned there. But I actually still do miss the times when it was worth getting up early on weekends to watch the good cartoons.

You were all talking about 80s stuff, and while I enjoy it, I never actually lived it. The 90s though...Woo, I miss that decade. I said yes to all those things except the girl stuff.

Hehe..."Wax on"...

Now this is a story, all about how my life got flipped - turned

upside down,

And i'd like to take a minute,

just

sit right there,

I'll tell you howI became the prince

of a town called Bel-Air

In West Philadelphia,

born an' raised,

on the playground is where i spent

mosta my days,

Chillin out, maxin', relaxin' all

cool,

An' all shootin some B-ball outside of the

school,

When a couple o' guys who were up to no

good,

Started makin' trouble in my neighbourhood,

I got in one little fight and my mom got scared,

She said

'You're movin with your auntie and uncle in

Bel-Air!'

I whistled for a cab and when i came near,

The license plate

said 'Fresh',

And had dice in the mirror,

If

anything i could say that this cab was rare,

But I thought

'Nah, forget it - Yo, home to Bel-Air!'

I pulled up to the house at bout seven or eight,

I yelled to

the cabbie 'Yo home, smell ya later!'

I looked at

my kingdom,

I was finally there!

To sit on my throne

as the prince of Bel-Air!

Heh heh, Seibie. As I read your post for the first time, an episode of "Fresh Prince" started on TV and he was singing that song. Whats funny about that song is that Will was the cousin. If the Banks' were royalty, the SON would be the Prince, NOT the cousin. I know. Technicallity. ::shrug::

That list is great, the memories it brings back is making me all nostalgic! But, it can't strictly be called a "90's kid" listing. The listing combines at least 15 - 20 years of stuff spanning both the 80's and the 90's. The Smurfs and Trappers were the 80's, but Carmen Sandiego, Pogs, and Goosebumps to name just a few were definitely the 90's. And I think the Razor scooter shouldn't even be included; they really started somewhere around 2001 (mind you, this is MO).

Wiki gives a pretty good base article (it got a bit convoluted at spots) for Generation X-ers, but basically I got from it that X has expanded to include not just 80's kids (born 70's), but 90's kids ( born as late as 1981), and some 60's ('61 onward) kids. Then, we have the MTV Gen that includes the birth years '75-'85. I really never understand exactly how these generations are marked out. Go check the article (and the related articles) if interested, or you are a history geek, because it actually shows a timeline of the Gens from 1701 until now.

I refuse to link, or post, the article(s) due to my recent news article I had put up and apparently wasn't supposed to. :(

But hey, I'm Generation X! Woo!

Heavens, these were the times when my children, grandchildren were growing up. This Grandmothers memories go back to a time when you rarely saw batteries in toys, Lucy was on the telly, we spent most of our evenings at the drive-in, and you had to get to your feet to change the channel. Most Saturdays, I spent the morning on my hair and the rest of the day in curlers with a kerchief wrap. Now that was a special time. My children had friends who I thought of as my own. Their parents thought the same of my children. You left your front door open, or the back door, so they could come and go as they saw fit. I think I still have Bobs church key bottle opener. Oh, now I have to go through some old pictures! Mary

The Smurfs and Trappers were the 80's, but Carmen Sandiego, Pogs, and Goosebumps to name just a few were definitely the 90's.

Carmen Sandiego (the educational video game) was originally from the 80's. It ran on those old Apple II computers that used to be ubiquitous in elementary schools until Windows took over the world. They did have DOS versions, but it just wasn't the same when the floppy disks weren't actually floppy, and the graphics weren't 4-color CGA. The PBS TV show was from the early to mid 90's. By then, the games were already on their decline.

With the exception of copyright-infringing YouTube links, links to things that aren't rated PG-13 or less, or advertising, linking is *always* OK. Wikipedia itself is actually copyable in its entirety under certain liberal conditions.

I can not *believe* all the stuff coming back. I'm glad in so many ways that I missed Disco, but alas, now that dance is hot again, as hard as I have tried to avoid it, I now know how to hustle...

And cable TV... I have a part time job now where I can have the TV on, and holy crap if I didn't find "The Partridge Family" and "Welcome Back Kotter"! lol! 70's TV is hiLARious! "I think I love you!" rofl! With the blow-dried hair...

Generation X rules! :P

But for just this one, Hello Nurse!

Ah yes, the gay nineties. :D In one episode of In Living Color, Jim Carey is impersonating Senator Bob Dole. He walks into his office, locks the door, switches on the radio, and starts stripping off to the tune "Low Rider". Just imagine now, it's Jim Carey. During this rather shocking burlesque show, Carey slowly changes into a "blue dress" with stockings, etc. and cavorts around the room as Janet Reno. He nearly breaks an ankle tripping around the room like a crippled donkey trying to dance in heels. It's the funniest thing I ever saw! The sad part is, I really wanted Liddy Dole for President. :( And God forgive me for laughing at poor Janet Reno of Elian Gonzalez and Waco Disaster fame. I love politics!

You know what was ironic about In Living Color? Sure it was a funny show, especially Homey the Clown and the various incarnations of Men on Whatever, but the show itself was nothing more than Kehan Ivory Wayns' attempt to get jobs for his family. And who were the biggest stars to come out of the show? Jim Carey (Fire Marshal Bill) and Jennifer Lopez (a Fly Girl).

Yep. I always thought Gobots were a cheap ripoff of the Transformers. But who remembers the first edition runs of Jetfire, with the UN Spacy (Robotech) markings? I know I do.

Suprised no one mentioned Oregon Trail for an older PC game aside from Carmen Sandiego. I always had my Oxen die and got stuck.

As for the points for the Vanilla Ice TMNT song: "Go ninja, go ninja, go!"

You have full permission to shoot me now.
