Remember When?

97 posts in this topic

I was a mad crazy fan of Barbies as well. I also loved my carebears, she-ra and popples. Does anyone remember popples? I asked someone that recently and no one knew who the heck they were, I decided not to bring up the Wuzzles.

Wise choice, even if none of us ever heard of Popples.

Oh yeah, I remember Popples. Right along with the Snorks and Strawberry Shortcake! =0]

Remember when Mad Magazine was good clean fun, instead of what it is today?

The Snorks were awesome especially Occy. :(

Snorks! Havent thought about them in years. Occy was the little octopus type dog correct? I remember seeing the "Snorks on Ice" as well.

Pardon me while I geek out with 80's style trivia- the voice actor, Michael Bell, who did the voice of All Star Snork also voiced Duke in GI Joe (along with Major Bludd), several Transformers (Prowl for one), and on the Smurfs he did Grumpy Smurf. Recently, he can be heard on Rugrats, as well as a 2005 first person shooter game called "Darkwatch" as General Clay Cartwright. He's good as Cartwright for the few scenes he appears in, total hardcase, career military man that really doesn't care for the lead character (you).

I've heard of Teddy Ruxpin ( I remember the old TV show), but not Lazi bear. (Probably coz we don't have Lazarus Department Stores in Canada, that I know of).

My best friend growing up had a teddy ruxpen. To this day we are convinced that it was possessed. It use to talk on its own so we shoved it in the back of her closet. When we could still hear it talking we decided to take out the batteries and yet it still talked on occasion. Needless to say I don't really care for teddy ruxpen because all I can think about is it talking on its own.

Nothing makes me feel old like when I see fad toys that were popular when I was a child suddenly pop back up again: Strawberry Short Cake, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Care Bears and My Little Pony.

Of course my favorte was always my Big Wheel - the most un-girly thing I owned. Barbies came in a close second. Etch-a-sketch, shrinky dinks and lots of silly putty. My sister and I would torture each other on the Sit'n'Spin - trying to see who'd get the dizziest and bump into the walls first.

Oh and good old Atari games.

Did anyone ever mess with the Chinese Jump Rope?

Fine... If you *must* know, I had like a bizillion Barbies. And not ONE Ken doll, because you all know now what I figured out as a kid - GI Joe was WAY cooler than Ken. (So when that commercial came out a couple years ago where Barbie drove off in the sports car with GI Joe and left dorky Ken in the townhouse, I was like, "You go, Girl!")

And wondering a mall last week between work and class, I bought a mood ring. They're way better now - with better colors and sparkles and crap. We'll see if it goes the way of all my other mood rings/watches, etc. and gets stuck on black, lol.

Stupid springy rope! I curse you! :(

The problem with Ken is that he's a PAM metrosexual. And since this is a PG-rated public forum, if any of y'all want to know what a PAM is, PM, YIM (maj_scooter) or email me. I'd rather not run the risk of getting banned. I like it here, y'all are like family. One big, extremely extended, occaisionally dysfunctional family.

And yeah, I hate it when the fad toys become cool again. But they're like disco--they never die!

Mine was nothing special. Being a guy growing up in the late 80's i of corse loved the turtles. And now that they are finally coming out with another movie (this one is CGI and darker like the original comics) i can feel the 8 year old inside of me getting all excited again. Or maybe its just because i let him eat today.

A darker version going back to the Turtle comics? So I'm guessing we won't be seeing Vanilla Ice making an appearance to sing the movie's theme song? :-P Bonus points to whoever recalls that little slice of Vanilla pop culture as well!

And, back in the mid 90' s or so - anyone recall the Pogs that were so big? Kids were collecting them, these little round, flat cardboard things with all kinds of designs or pop culture images. And, you had a Shooter Pog to shoot at them (think marbles), but I think it was more about collecting them. I remember a couple of local news stories about teachers having to confiscate the pogs because kids were bringing them to school to trade.

One more - Starter Sports Jackets (early 90's) - omg. EVERYone (my local area at least) was walking around with these jackets on. I dont know how far it spread, and it probably was restricted to seasonal or colder climates, but I just remember the frenzy about 'em.

Oh man. I remember kids stabbing and killing each other for their Starter Jackets. I thought it was insane! =0]

Vanilla Ice did that song in Turtles 2, I don't think they did anything in the first one (unless I missed something). I have the Turtles 2 soundtrack, complete with "Ninja Rap" by Vanilla Ice.

And I still have all my Pogs. Great fun, I still get them out once in a while. Yeah, I loved the 90s.

The character of Kristin Shepard (played by Mary Crosby) was revealed to have been the person who pulled the trigger in the classic "Who Done It?" episode. Kristin was J.R.'s scheming sister-in-law and mistress. Pregnant with J.R.'s child, Kristin shot J.R. in a fit of anger.

Here is some useless trivia: Actors Glenn Corbett and James Cromwell both had guest appearances on the Dallas TV show. Both actors went on to play Zefram Cochrane.

All through the 90's, David Suchet as "Hercule Poirot" added a touch of class to an otherwise plodding existence, et bien sur he spoke French!

And do you remember your favorite TV shows from the 80's? I enjoyed Murder She Wrote, Matlock, Highway to Heaven was my favorite, Cheers, The Golden Girls, Night Court, and Hunter was awesome!

Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazzard, the A-Team, MASH, and "You Can't Do that on Television". But I was busy watching reruns of Star Trek, and Dr. Who on a PBS station out Wilkes-Barre on cable, and Hogan's Heroes on a Boston station that Cablevision of NJ both got, when they weren't pre-empted for the Red Sox, the Bruins or funding drives.

Oh yeah, I still watch MASH. All I remember about "You cant do that on television" is the green slime. (Ew!) =0]

Heh. It was like Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in with a specific phrase to get slimed. Heck, I think everyone still watches MASH.

Sock it to me!
