Briefing Time

Marx walked into Security, and right into his office, ignoring Thoros flipping through his well-thumbed Andorian-language edition of Play-being. Grabbing his coffee cup, and pouring himself a cup of the murky brew, Marx sat down and began scribbling on a yellow legal pad. "For this to be convincing, I'll need at least three squads, preferably four. And all SOCOM trained.

"Computer, get me the MarDeck."

"MarDeck, CSM Jackson."

"Sar'Major, Lt. Marx. You have SOCOM grade personnel down there?"

"Hell yes, sar! We're Recon Marines, sar. We work behind enemy lines."

"Good, Sar'Major. I need at least 4 squads for a covert op. I also need your best flight crews for the Tarawa and Belleau Wood." Marx paused for a moment to look at his watch. "Have them assembled in Security briefing room 2 in 15 minutes."

"Aye aye sar. MarDeck out."

"Mr. Thoros," Marx called, as he took a sip of coffee, "my office."

Play-being forgotten, Thoros quickly entered. "Sir?"

"At ease, Mr. Thoros. I have another away team op coming up; which means that you're in charge again while I'm gone. If there's an AT mission, it'll be up to you to coordinate with the Marine Deck." Marx leaned forward, steepling his fingers in front of his face. "Don't screw up like you did with Swan, Ensign. Understood?"

"What about the prisoner?"

"She'll be with me."

"Yes sir."

The door to the office opened again. "Sar," CSM Jackson said, "platoon assembled in Briefing Room 2."

"Thank you Sar'Major. I'll be there in a moment." Marx sat back, and returned his one-eyed gaze to Thoros. "You have your orders, Ensign; dismissed." Taking his coffee cup with him, Marx walked out of the office, R4 trailing behind.

CSM Jackson stood by the door to the briefing room. As soon Marx was a few paces down the corridor, he shouted "Group…Atten-shun!" and saluted the Security Chief. "Platoon assembled, sar!"

"Very good, Sar'Major," Marx replied, returning the salute. "At ease," he called, entering the room. The 54 Marines in the room sat back, as Marx walked to the podium and set his coffee cup on it. Looking over the assembled Marines, he began. "Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. We have an operation to execute, and not much time to plan and train for it." The overhead lights dimmed, and the panel behind Marx lit up. "First off, this is a volunteer mission. Anyone wishing to stay behind will not be looked upon as weak. Secondly, this briefing is classified 'Top Secret', and will not be discussed outside this room."

The slide changed, to an Academy photo of Trenton. The Marines were mature enough to maintain their military bearing, and not hiss and boo the photo. "Our target is former Starfleet Ensign, Ryan Trenton; a traitor to the Federation and probable saboteur of the ship. According to Commander Lo'Ami, he was seen very recently on the bridge of the Imperial Star Destroyer ((Yes, I know it's a Vicstar)) Monarch.

"The mission is to infiltrate the Monarch, secure Ensign Trenton, and exfiltrate to the Marine shuttles under the cover of an explosion on the ship.

"We land on which ever planet in Z3X454 has an Imperial garrison, incognito, then infiltrate the garrison with Ms. Swan, and when the Monarch enters orbit, we head up to the ship in an Imperial shuttle.

"Upon infiltrating the Star Destroyer, we locate and secure Ensign Trenton, set of an explosive charge to cover our escape, exfiltrate to either the Tarawa or Belleau Wood, or both if the situation dictates, and return to the Arc.

"The team will be equipped with subcutaneous transponders, to facilitate exfiltration, on an encrypted SOCOM frequency, that is unknown outside of Special Operations Command. So Trenton wouldn't know what it is, or to scan for it.

"R4 should have the information we need within his databanks. We will be uploading it to the computer network, and replicating the uniforms and equipment needed. Since we were mistaken as 'stormtroopers' by Col. Spacely, it would be reasonable to go in as such.

"Any other equipment we can acquire locally, such as ground vehicles. Our anonymity as stormtroopers and with the power they have, can provide us with the means to do so.

"To prevent Ms. Swan from blowing our cover, she'll be getting a visit by the Doc, and a nice 'vitamin' shot. When and if she wakes up, she'll be surrounded by 'stormtroopers'. In cuffs, of course.

"Are there any questions?" Since it seemed pretty straight forward, there were none. "At this time, does anyone wish to back out?" There were no volunteers for stay behinds. "Very good.

"Chain of command will the thus: Myself, CSM Jackson, Gunny S'Tark, and Staff Sergeant Lee. However, every last Marine will know the mission, should the he or she be the last man. Intel is sketchy at best; we do know that he's been seen on the bridge of the Monarch during communications with Captain Dacotah; so that will be the first place to inspect.

"Three squads will accompany myself and Ms. Swan, the remainder will make their way to Engineering to create our diversion. Communications will be kept at a minimum, unless the situation dictates a new change.

"We have a few hours to prepare. Begin prepping your men, run through what we have, and report back here in 5 hours. Dismissed."
